Bryan Fuller to remake The Munsters for NBC

Don't vampires and werewolves usually look human until they vamp/wolf out?

Yeah but a Frankenstein rarely does

Because that's just the story that Fuller has crafted. In the story, when Eddie was born, he seemed to be normal, so his parents wanted to raise him in as normal and human of an environment as possible. Now that he's approaching puberty, his wolf has emerged.

Fuller's going for something with a bit more depth than camp.

Ok I can go with that, sadly it seems they will never go full monster look with the series been killed

I understand downplaying their "monster" looks, but they took it a bit too far. Clancy Browns appearance in The Bride and Kim Directors in Blair Witch are examples of they could have gone in keeping with the monster themes of the original show.

Lily is especially disappointing. She should be more Vampish.

Honestly, with how cheap the characters look, I'm really hoping this doesn't get picked up. I think a message needs to be sent to network television that cheapening the source material is pointless.

That's because Lily is more of a Ghostly character in this than a Vampish one.

Speaking of which, don't know if anyone's posted this but this is a vid of Grandpa and Lily's transformations. I think Lily's is really cool and imaginative, really loving it.

Are you implying that it was an issue of money? If so, I'm pretty sure going with the more subtle look was an intentional artistic choice on the part of the creators, and one I'm totally on board with.

Really, I don't get why people are throwing such a hissy fit because they don't look obviously monstrous to a casual observer. It's still a sitcom about a family of hammer horror monsters living in the suburbs, there's still plenty you can do with that that's great regardless of how obviously monstrous they look.

Plus, when I watched the show, I always thought it was weird that any of the family members besides Herman were noticeably monstrous, and I especially didn't like it when they were green in the color versions. Vampires and Werewolves are kinds of monsters that are supposed to look like normal people most of the time.

I LOVED every second of that. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this does well enough to get picked up.

While not as subtle in the new show, Frankenstein's monster in the book didn't have the flat head, green skin, and bolts in his neck that we usually think of. He was just a dude with really weird colored skin covered in stitches. Not even green, more of a jaundice yellow that was semi-transparent, and you could see the outlines of his muscles and veins.

Not knowing the actual budget of the show, I'll just say it looks cheap with an after thought of the cliche of "artistically simple."

Maybe because the airwaves are over-saturated with simplistic versions of fantastic material.

Not necessarily, as there are many renditions of each creatures' lores.

We just saw a clip where mist turns into a naked woman who then summons spiders to weave a dress for her. This is not fantastic how, exactly?

And speaking as to the writer's intent, it makes an enormous amount of sense to me as to why they wanted a more subtle look for the characters. Doing a silly episodic slapstick show with great character actors is one thing, but Bryan Fuller is a guy who does story arcs with a lot of heart. You've got to be able to generate pathos in the audience, and if you go to far with the visually fantastic it can just become silly and make that difficult.

I don't see how a more subtle look makes the show any worse. I don't see how blatantly monstrous designs would make the show inherently better. I do see how it makes it easier to tell the kinds of stories Brian Fuller likes to tell.

Not necessarily, as there are many renditions of each creatures' lores.

But in the versions these characters are based on they look normal 90% of the time.

Right?? Liked the music when the spiders were creeping down as well. I don't care what anyone says, I'm excited for this.

I wonder if this will be on Hulu Plus? I don't have cable so I'm hoping to watch it there.

Apparently Portia and Jerry O'Connell will be on Ellen tomorrow, so at least it's not like this thing is going competely without any promotion.

To be fair....Ellen....Portia....Still it's good to see it getting some airtime.

Having your wife on your talk show as a guest... huh. I mean, I guess booking is easy.

So is NBC going to promote this show on any of their talk shows or is it all up to Ellen?

You should be! :argh:

... alright, I might be losing it here. :o

I forgot I saw this in the TV listings in the Sunday paper. I just added it to my tv site to remind me, and I see it's listed as a TV Special.
