Bryan Fuller to remake The Munsters for NBC

Remember that vampire and werewolf show on ABC? No.

I think it would have had a chance as a comedy like the original but I think this smells like death...pun intended. If this is a drama with comedic elements then it's doomed. If it was like Modern Family with a monster twist, aka the original show, then IMO it could work. Heck, they could have even done a Parks or Office hidden camera style show with the POV being Marilyn aka the audience.

:lmao:

I'm laughing for all the wrong reasons.

The Office has Jim and Parks and Rec has Anne. This show would have Marilyn. You can help me write it.

I want Arrested Development, with Marilyn as Michael!

EDDIE: Marilyn, I've just made a huge mistake ...

TV Line:

He's no Malcolm McDowell, but I'm pleased.

Malcolm McDowell is a regular on Franklin and Bash.

I can't wait for people to start getting their herp and derp on about the new wardrobe. Because, you know, of course Eddie Izzard should go around dressed as Count Dracula every week. :whatever:

I think it looks great.

The thing is, it was just as ridiculous in the 60s, for Al Lewis to walk around dressed as Count Dracula. But the fact is, the writers were very aware of how ridiculous it was and they derived humor from it.

This almost feels like they are ashamed of the concept and are trying their hardest to modernize it, when the outdated absurdity is what makes it funny. The Munsters need to be to an extent, absolutely absurd.

Of course, this isn't a comedy, it is a drama which is exactly why it will fail. I dunno why, but I just feel like Fuller has over-thought himself on this one. I can see what he is going for....but it sounds terrible.

Honestly, Chase's idea is better than what they are doing. A very self-aware, intentionally absurd mocumentary about "family life," would actually be very faithful to the spirit of the original concept. It would be the ideal update.

Eh. I'm just in "haters gonna hate" mode right now. I trust Fuller enough to let him do what he's gonna do. This could very well be his BSG. People who go in overly attached to the original will hate him for what he's doing, but people who go in unbiased may be in for a treat.

Well he isnt calling it the Munsters so I can give it a chance to see what he is doing. It is basically just inspired by the Munsters.

Mason Cook Join Bryan Fuller's Mockingbird Lane

EXCLUSIVE: Young actor Mason Cook (Spy Kids In 4D) is set to co-star opposite Eddie Izzard and Charity Wakefield in NBC’s Munsters reboot Mockingbird Lane. The pilot, written by Bryan Fuller and to be directed by Bryan Singer, is described as a reinvention of the 1960s sitcom about The Munsters, a family of “monsters” — vampires, werewolves and Frankenstein, and their “plain” cousin (Wakefield) — that will feature striking visuals in the vein of Fuller’s ABC dramedy Pushing Daisies. Cook will play Eddie Munster, Lily and Herman’s only child, an earnest boy scout and budding werewolf. Horrified to learn the truth about himself, he refuses to eat meat and faces off against Grandpa (Izzard) at dinner.

Kid kinda looks like Butch Patrick.

NBC will probably never even pick up the pilot. It'll go the way of that Wonder Woman reboot.

Except the pilot will be awesome because it's written by Bryan Fuller, so instead, they'll probably pick it up, then cancel it 3 episodes later when it turns out to be too weird for the Two-and-a-Half-Men-loving mainstream TV-viewing community.

TV Line:
Scoop: Jerry O'Connell Cast as Herman Munster in NBC's Mockingbird Lane

Mockingbird Lane has found its new Herman Munster.

Jerry O’Connell has landed the role of the the Munster family patriarch in the NBC reboot, TVLine has learned.

The role was originated by Fred Gwynne in classic ’60s version.

The project, which was originally slated to go into production in the spring but got pushed back until early summer due to casting issues, is being stewarded by Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller and X-Men auteur Bryan Singer. Whereas the original was a comedy, the remake is being billed by NBC as a “visually spectacular one hour drama.”

O’Connell, who most recently starred opposite James Belushi in the CBS procedural The Defenders, joins previously cast Eddie Izzard (as Grandpa) and Mason Cook (as Eddie).

Interesting choice. I'd think he'd be the guy they might go to if it were a straight comedy. It'll be interesting to see how he handles the dramatic aspect.

Ugh, first casting I don't like. Jerry O'Connell has always, always annoyed me. I generally avoid everything he's in at this point, but I can't avoid this ('cause, ya know, Fuller!), so...blurgh.

O'Connell??

... gonna have to soak this one in. I take it this Herman Munster is gonna be different from Gwynne's Herman.

He's probably going to be the most different of all the characters in this iteration, just due to the fact that Herman was the most outwardly goofy and silly of the family. But he's still going to need some of that spirit, which is why I think O'Connell is a decent enough choice.

What's his height? I know the original had built-in lifts in his shoes but he was still pretty tall without.

-DOOM :doom:

O'Connell !!

Yeah , I didn't see that coming either. I don't understand it yet but looking forward to seeing the end result. It could be a great move or complete disaster.

I totally dig this casting. But it sucks that O'Connell is TV poison. :(

I liked the first couple seasons of Sliders. Not sure what else he'd done on t.v since then.

O'Connell's done Rebecca Romijn since Sliders :p

But seriously, he was GREAT in "The New Guy" with his brother Charlie O'Connell.

Jerry is 6'2", which is 3" shorter than Gwynne. Guess they'll have to use even bigger lifts lol

-DOOM :doom:

If that is the type of actor they were going for, only one man fit the role! The one, the only....CASPER VAN DIEN!

That hack O'Connell has been stealing CVD's roles since day one! :argh:

O'Connell?!

Any chance of me checking this show out is completely gone.
