Bryan Singer to direct '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea'

That barrier reef is just begging to have cameras placed on it.

Now this was some great news to start my day. This movie's getting closer to actually happening and I love it.

As long as the main character ( for me ), The Nautilus, is great, I will be fine but they will have a hard time topping Disney's Nautilus.

I'm sure Fincher the visual perfectionist is gonna show every single inch of it.

Nothing against 'Gone Girl' which could be good but the story feels too 'unmemorable at a Panic Room' level. It feels too standard.

I hope he goes ahead with '20,000' eventually, and it looks like it will.

Fincher's "20,000 Leagues" Delays Production

By Garth Franklin Monday May 20th 2013 12:58PM
Production on David Fincher's remake of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" at Disney Pictures has been put on hold.
Originally slated to shoot in Sydney next month, a spokeswoman now confirms production won't start until 2014. The delay is said to be due to casting issues after Brad Pitt passed on the lead role of Ned Land.
This follows a month after the Australian federal government earmarked $21.6 million to help lure the production to Australia.

Depressing. Really don't see a 2015 release since Disney already has some heavy-hitting blockbusters for that year. Episode 7, Avengers 2, and Pirates of the Caribbean 5? Pshh.. yeah. 2016 at the earliest.

Oh, this is still happenings? I thought it just went the way of Elliot ness project and black hole or whatever it was called.

What ? Because of brad friggin pitt we wont see this movie in 2014 ? So many great actors out there , just choose another one.

This is a bummer, until then I wish we could get another film by Fincher but perhaps scheduling might be tight, perhaps he could direct some TV episodes or music videos until then to keep us occupied.

Fincher wanted him for the role specifically. He probably had a whole thing about it.

Fincher needs to get the f**k over it. Directors don't get the actors they had in mind for a role all of the time.

Fincher's perfectionist nature probably makes him unable to act quickly and find a replacement. The man probably storyboarded the entire thing in his genius mind with Pitt as the lead.

I've just finished reading the book and I absolutely loved it. Here's who I would cast...

Professed Aronnax - Melanie Laurent (I like the idea of keeping the main character French)
Captain Nemo- Gary oldman
Ned land- Jeremy renner
Counsel - Urbain Cancelier

I still feel Nemo should be an Indian actor. Seems pointless to cast a white dude when there are well trained indian guys out there.

Fincher Off "Girl" Sequel, "Leagues" Dead

By Garth Franklin Wednesday July 17th 2013 02:05PM
The Playlist reports that David Fincher's adaptation of Jules Verne's "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" has been dead for months.
In fact, it goes so far as to claim the reports in April about the film getting a tax credit in Australia was a desperate move by the government to entice the filmmakers and producers into continuing with the project.
The reasons for the project collapse are numerous. Fincher's first choice Brad Pitt passed. Backup choices Daniel Craig and Matt Damon didn't want to be away from their families for the shoot which would've been at least five months.
Fincher considered Channing Tatum but Disney didn't want him. Disney wanted Chris Hemsworth but Fincher didn't. Ultimately Fincher decided at that point to move onto his other project "Gone Girl".
Add in the big-budget flops of "John Carter" and "The Lone Ranger," Disney is now understandably not keen to roll the dice on an ambitious $200+ million 3D tentpole adaptation like 'Leagues'.
Another Fincher-related project is the "The Girl Who Played with Fire," the adaptation of Stieg Larsson's second book in the Millennium trilogy following "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo".
Scribe Andrew Kevin Walker has come onboard to work on Steve Zaillian's earlier drafts of the script for the film and his work is almost finished. The catch is the short window of availability for actor Daniel Craig.
The only time before 2015 that Craig would be available to film 'Played With Fire' would be early next year. However Fincher will likely be well into post on "Gone Girl".
So it looks as if Fincher will no longer helm 'Played With Fire', though with his pay or play deal he gets a nice bonus either way.

in 2013 we steal hear that he has hard times with budgets? i thought the digital camera would fix this. :)

funny how he would do the movie with Tatum to get the movie made but not with Hemsworth.

Surprising that he'd make the film with Taters but not Thor.

For months? Damn, when it's been quiet for a project I hate to assume the worst but I can't blame Disney if they were hesitant about going forward, anyway Gone Girl sounds like a great project for Fincher to tackle next but I'd love if he could do an adventure film later down the line.
