C. Nolan's Interstellar

Well, it certainly looks like crap to me. Miami Vice looks more beautiful, but you could still tell it's digital. Public Enemies was that times 100. Collateral looked great, though.

Collateral is the only film where I feel Mann's home video look worked. I disliked it in Miami Vice and Public Enemies. Though I really like Public Enemies as a film.

Plenty of directors/cinematographers have an excellent grasp of digital. It's not something I'm concerned about.

I was browsing the commnader Bond forums and there is a topic that asks who should the director for Bond 24 be and one poster wrote that anyone but Lee Tamahori (director of Die another Day) or Nolan should suffice, prompting me to spit out my orange juice following a failed attempt to stifle immediate laughter. The vitriol towards Nolan is so over the top, almost cartoonish.

True, but Lee's personal life is consistently ridiculed in conjunction with being credited as the guy who almost killed Bond in those forums. The poster who wrote "anyone but Lee Tamahori and Nolan" understood full well how low he sank Nolan, at least in the context of that forum and Lee's reputation in it.

It would be interesting to know this posters thoughts on Skyfall... Given that Mendes cites Nolan and TDK as being the driving influence behind the film (even referring to Nolan with 'He's the man, isn't he?'). And the influence is exceedingly obvious all throughout the movie (I swear there's a point when Bond is hanging on the elevator where they just use the Batman music).

I thought I was the only one who noticed that music cue was very similar. lol

Pretty sure we won't be able to know what exactly the story's about until watching it at cinema....like every films Chris Nolan did.

we didnt know what was the story for Inception before watching the movie?

Who made that title card thing? Isn't the date set in November>

Since most Nolan movies like this are a kind of personal story wrapped in a rich setting (sci-fi), here's a quick plot outline I came up with in a few minutes:

A desparate husband and wife lead a team of astronauts across space and time, using technology based on his late father's scientific theories, in search of their kidnapped daughter.

Kinda unrealistic for a Nolan movie but I like it.

Definitely not as realistic as, say, entering dreams and robbing info out of people. Or implanting them.

Is the movie being re-written at all? Keep in mind this was originally developed for Spielberg.

Of course :cwink:

But, if there was a little girl in it... You know it'd be Joey King

They said it was Jonah's original screenplay, based on Thorne's theories, being rewritten by Chris to incorporate an original idea of his own.

There was a report that Nolan was re-writing to include some original ideas head, which I'm not too psyched about. Nolan is a better director than he is a writer IMO

Actually, the fact that he's putting original ideas of his makes me even more hopeful. He's at his best when he does stuff of his own, imo.

Meh, I agree with that part - Inception's story was fantastic - but I hope the report meant that the script will (mostly) still be Jonah Nolan's and Chris is only changing certain elements. I don't want him to completely re-write it.

He'll be adding things from particular pieces of work in the same genre and then flat out deny them when people ask him if he was influenced by it or not (*cough*direct visual pieces from Paprika*cough*). :p ;)

Steins; Gate you best pepper your angus!

directors need to deny it. look what happened with Cameron and terminator. he was honest and said where he was inspired. to this day some are acting like Cameorn stole the whole story and made a 100% copy movie.

Satoshi Kon was nothing short than an amazing director. I get sad just remembering his letter :csad:

I think I'm going to make a thread on Digital vs. Film.

That usually ends up in juvenile arguments (and sometimes very unknowledgeable ) . There shouldn't be any "war" regarding different formats (unless i would work with fuji , kodak , sony , red, etc). Both exist , both have pros and cons , both should be available to filmmakers that should choose whatever they find more appropriate to their goal.

It's done in European date shorthand. So it's dd/mm/yyyy instead of mm/dd/yyyy.

I'l never wrap my head why US likes to use the mm/dd :woot:

Definitely going to be following Nolan's new movie. Sounds interesting. I wonder if another Zimmer collaboration is likely. Hope so.
