The Dark Knight Caine Describes Ledger's Joker

yikes. looks like hatebox is emo!

i didn't say all-white isn't, i'm saying that nolan may want to distinguish his joker slightly in appearance , and this may be that compromise. i didn't say it was the best option; it's better than makeup
Honestly, I'd prefer him being a normal man in makeup than being splotchy white. It's just a stupid change in my opinion.

and makeup does what for the character, besides change everything?

Here's the way I see it.

If The Joker is just a man in makeup, it's a radical change to the character's interpretation, and I'm willing to stomach it.

If The Joker is blotchy white, then I will be pissed that they couldn't have just gone the extra mile and made him all-white.

If he's normal, I can accept it because that's the way it is.
If he's blotchy, I can't accept it because of what it could have been.

Hopefully that makes more sense. Sorry if it's still confusing.

i agree, it's like: why not finish the race?

quick joke:

how many emo kids does it take to screw in a light bulb?

::anyone?::

none. they'd rather sit in the dark and cry.

ohhhh!

That makes sense. I...well, you may hate my opinion on this because I wouldn't mind blotchy. He covers the rest up with makeup, but in the end it's still blotchy. I wouldn't mind that, myself. Kinda adds to the whole dirty, grittiness of him.

I wouldn't mind blotchy. At least it's something.

i follow ya. i just don't agree. something is better than nothing (makeup)

I'm sorry, but what in God's name would be the point of that?

As others have stated, maybe because his *real* skin is blotchy white or greyish in colour. Perhaps his real skin along with his scar makes him look disfigured, and he wants to disguise that.

That would do justice to the comics and I think it would please fans if his real skin was in fact some sort of blotched white or greyish white. If you want to talk about the whole "chemical bath" thing, it's more realistic (makes sense) that the colour of a person's face wouldn't be uniform.

I don't really have an answer as to "why" or what would be the point (if indeed his real skin turns out to be like that). It just makes sense in the context of the Joker. Putting layers of makeup on top of his real skin is something crazy and outlandish and totally in-line with the kind of character the Joker is.

One could ask why he wears a mask during the bank robbery, and we know the answer to that is to disguise himself from his enemies/the goons he's with at the bank. He may put layers of makeup on as a "mask" to again disguise himself from his enemies.

The movie will likely leave a lot of mystery and unanswered questions. I hope it's like that. I hope the Joker is given as little explanation as possible. That makes him seem larger than life, which is what the Joker is all about.

kind of makes you question, is nolans realism right for a character like joker? batman, yes, because he puts on a mask. but joker......is more out there and does insane things and wears makeup and looks like a clown. it doesnt sound hard to do, but nolan has to make that somehow fit in his "real" world, which is hard to do i guess. i dont get whats so hard to make joker permawhite though....

.... I hang out with people that dress more eccentric then joker and have more make up then heath ever had... It is realistic I assure you

I am NOT going to stomach this malarkey!

JOKER'S SKIN = WHITE. And that's all there is to it.

ok then be dissapointed with the film, we wont mind. The fact is no amount of whining will change it.

I think making his skin blotchy is kinda redundant. If its not white, its not white. Having him have normal skin, with some white blemishes here and there, is just as much a change as flesh-tone skin. If it's not all-white, they're as well just going the different route. Go one way or the other.

But I don't think the "blotchy" argument is going to lead anywhere. It seems a little like the "Venom in Spidey's eye" thing...

Forget Nolan and his "realism"!!!!!!

Did you not just post this exact phrase in the other Joker thread? Dude we are ****ed with the perma white just accept it as what it is and enjoy it. We havn't had the Joker on screen for almost 20 years for christ sake enjoy it.

I think blotchy could be good, really. I mean, it would really depend on the way things go down. If they change the vat of chemicals scene to be more of their own movie, it could work.

If Mr. J is splattered with the chemicals, rather than completely soaked in them, the results could potentially only effect the zones that were touched by the chemicals. Which, of course, could lead to him looking splotchy. As for him applying make-up? It's different, but depending on the pace of the film? It could potentially wind up being a really good move. Or, of course, really bad.

I mean, the splotched and messy look would add to the wretched, homicidal image they're supposedly aiming for. Either way, it won't hurt my feelings. I'm sure I'll love this movie either way.

cool idea but that would basically be two-face's origin

I second that, my anticipation for this film is more than any other comic film even Begins, and I've been here since it was only Spider-man hype with a countdown clock and ****.

True, but wasn't it acid that hit Two-Face? Which was why it more or less melted it? I'm not talking about it being thrown in his face or anything like that. I meant, if like a pipe burst and sprayed him with the stuff, it could leave him splotchy.

But as I said, I'm stoked no matter what Joker shows up. So long as the movie is a good one.

i know what your saying, but i meant that we would basically see the same thing twice since we know that two face is in it.
