ok its official. this is the best shot. everythign works. the pose of both main characters, the lighting, the subtle glow that is behind them, the purple color on the left that gives an interesting colored edge on Sam's body. it just works.

i am f... mad that i couldnt watch this in 3D. this is just not fair .the movie looks so good. so pretty.if anyone deserved to watch this it was me. i hyped it up with my friends. i promoted avatar day where i lived. people knew about it. they watched it. noone cares. none cares. i got the tickets for everyone.
why meeeee'??????????

Something I forgot to mention about the 3D footage. Yes Neytiri is almost naked, and even in one scene when she was talking with Jake after the ‘’dog alien’’ fight we can clearly see one of her breasts with nipple. But it was a CG blue boob so I doubt it will be more than PG-13. But in the 15 min footage Zoe was smoking hot alien!

Camerons titanic made over 600 millions domestic. the MPAA has no balls to give him a R rating.

Just got back...while I wasn't a fan of the trailer the footage was great. 3D makes it look incredible. Still not crazy about the na'vi but Pandora looked incredble.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
why me ?

This may sound cheesy to some but I totally believe it when I say that this may be quite an overwhelming experience for some, and that tears may be shed on scenes like this

If this technology lives up to the hype (which I think it will) then I think a scene like this will be too amazing to believe. It looks simply beautiful from the trailer alone so I really can't wait to see it the way it's meant to be.

Even images like this in the trailer are striking a chord with me and I feel I will really care for this character.

This will be a tremendous emotional experience, I think. :O From the story, the characters, and even the effects thrown in there.

Believe me, friend, you are lucky that you didn't see it. After i saw it a cant stop thinkig about it. The trailer is just to..normal to get my fix

Waiting in line for the footage, 30 min to go. What's the consensus so far from people that have seen it already?

From what I have read from reports of those who have seen the footage they all say that it is great!

i hate you :oldrazz:

Ok.....you guys need to get off people's back for not liking the trailer. You're just as bad as those trashing it. A person doesnt like it. Oh boo hoo. Get the **** over it.

Meh...

Here is a positive report of the footage. As the guy says in the report, he doesn't know much about the film and this is his first theatre 3D experience and he enjoyed it a lot.

So I think this report is pretty fair because it seems that it doesn't come from someone who has been following the film or from an erratic internet fanboy. Just seems like a report from the general public.

"Went to the IMAX today and was probably a part of the first set of public people to view the preview footage in the world.

It was my first time to see anything in a theatre-like environment in 3D, so I was really impressed with the 3D effects and enjoyed that thoroughly.

I didn't really know much about the film so I can't really pin anything on the footage that was shown itself. But the CGI is really impressive, featuring full skin textures when close-up to the characters. And it was really awesome to see simple things, such as Sam Worthington wheeling himself around in 3D, and the camera following characters and having surrounding ones go past you as if you were there. Additionally, the footage featured footage in jungles and flies and insects appeared as though they were all around you. Even the subtitles were 3D!

I'm hoping to go and see this in IMAX 3D when it comes out. And here's to hoping this film doesn't let down. Go, James Cameron!"

I can vouch for this guys validity as I was at the same screening.

I would have thought this thread would have been bursting with reports and reviews by now.

Well I was also at the same screening today, and apparently it was one of, if not the very first screening to happen around the globe.

The IMAX was packed as expected and the clips were introduced by Chris Green from Twentieth Century Fox. I was waiting for someone to shout out , "Why do Fox keep raping every film it makes", but alas...

The following is a rundown of what was shown to the best of my memory:

The clips are introduced by Jim Cameron who describes to us the character of Jake, as well as the set-up and story of the film. He also mentions that all scenes are from the first half of the film, so there's no need to worry about major spoilers.

The clips start off with Col. Quaritch (Stephen Lang) briefing his troops about Pandora and the Na'vi. In the process giving them a bad name, by describing them as everything that they aren't. He also tells them that he can't promise he will be able to protect all of them and that they all may not survive, because they won't. Halfway through the briefing Jake rolls up into the scene.

The next clip is of Jake getting ready to connect with his Avatar. Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) offers to help him into the pod, but he says he is fine. Its obvious that he is excited and eager by the whole process and possibility, as she tells him numerous times to relax, put his head down and blank his mind. We also see Augustine's team in the background getting ready to perform the procedure, one makes a comment that Jake has a good brain.
Augustine then informs her team to get ready to begin the process. It appears as though she is about to go through the same procedure as Jake, as far as I can recall she was walking towards a similar pod as the one Jake was in.

The next clip begins from Jake's point of view, all blurry and cloudy where he has now finally connected to his Avatar. The doctors and medical team around him check to see he is functional, respondent and has full control of his senses. They ask him to sit up and touch his thumbs with each of his fingers and to wiggle his toes.
Clearly the experience and feeling of being able to feel and use his legs again is all too much for Jake. The doctors tell him to remain seated, but he is too eager to stand up and walk. It all gets a bit hectic with the team and doctors behind the screen asking him to remain where he is, and preparing to sedate him.
Jake continues though, stumbling as he gets up onto his feet and tells them he is alright. Another person (I'm assuming the guy behind Jake when he is looking at his Avatar in its test tube) who has also gone though the same procedure tries to calm Jake down and get him to listen to the doctors. We then see the shot from the trailer with Jake saying, "It feels great".
The other guy then asks the team to get all the equipment and wires off of him so that he can go and calm Jake down. The scene ends with Jake going through the door of the room they are in.

The next clip begins and we are now on Pandora, where Jake, Augustine and the rest of the team are face to face with a Hammerhead Elephant I believe. Augustine tells Jake to remain calm and to slowly move away. The hammerhead charges at the team, and at the same time Jake charges at it shouting. The hammerhead stops about a foot away from Jake, turns away and runs. Jake thinking it was running from him makes the most of the moment.
The beast we see chasing Jake in the trailer then appears from the surroundings behind Jake and gives out a roar. Jake then ask Augustine, "What about his one?", she replies, "Run! Definately Run!".
A chase then proceeds between Jake and the beast. Jake dives for cover at the bottom of a tree within its roots (It seems that mountain aren't the only things that are elevated on Pandora). The beast continues to try and grab Jake. Jake escapes out the other side and continues running with the beast in pursuit. The clip then ends with the beast jumping on Jake like in the trailer, though it goes as far as landing and grabbing Jake in the process.

The next clip is at night in Pandora and Jake is being attacked by dogs. Neytiri appears and takes out the hounds and saves Jake. Jake goes to thank Neytiri, but she hits him away, she also puts out a fire that Jake has going, much to his reluctance. One of the dogs is still alive and clearly suffering from his wounds from an arrow Neytiri shot at it, she goes over to it and mercifully puts it down, at the same time saying something in in Na'vi.
Neytiri then goes off, Jake chases after her to speak to her. She calls him pathetic and irresponsible saying he is like a child and that those dogs did not have to die. Jake then asks her, well why did you save me then. There is a slight pause before Neytiri responds to him saying he has a strong heart.

The final clip is off Jake along with Neytiri and more of the Na'vi on a mountain surrounded by the flying creatures that are seen in the trailer. They seem to be searching amongst them for the one that is compatible with Jake to bond with. Jake asks how will I know which is the right one. Neytiri replies that it will be the one that tries to kill you. One of the Na'vi jokingly makes a comment that, "That moron's going to get himself killed".
Jake walks amongst them and while some hiss and scowl at him, he replies in the same manner and they just step off or fly away. He eventually comes up to one who doesn't reply in the same manner and a struggle ensues between the two. Jake manages to wrestle control of the creature while tying its beak. Neytiri then tells him to bond with it. He does this by merging his hair with one of its attenaes seemingly.
Jake then gets full control of the creature seemingly though a mind link. Neytiri then hurrys Jake and tells him that the first flight needs to be made immediately. Jake dives off the mountain top with the creature and at first is unable to get it to respond. He eventually does so and the two take flight.

We then get a closing montageof clips, which is basically the latter part of the teaser trailer with a few shots replaced with new ones. I can' really remember any of these apart from one with Neytiri in a stance preparing to fight with someone or something.

Like the previous reviewer, this was my first time seeing a film in 3D and in honesty it took a bit to adjust to it, as I've never experienced a film like this. I think the CGI of the charcters will get the same complaints they have been getting, but nonetheless I was still very impressed. The texture and attention to detail in close-up shots was excellent. I also believe this film is made for 3D and while not a necessity should be experienced if possible. My only real gripe was at times between shots and fast movements the picture became blurred. Though I think this was partly due to where I was sitting at an angle rather than straight in front of the screen. The film itself looks brilliant as well as epic, and I will most certainly be seeing it when its is released.

Hmm, Neytiri is pretty hot. Glad we'll get a chance to see her nips. I'm excited about the hentai that would result from this movie.
She looks fantastic, amazing, hot. i am shocked how good she looks here. she looks cute, pretty and still alive. i just dont get it. how did they do this? how? was it luck or is this the result of more then 6 months of designing and pre-production?

she is one of the best designed humanoid alien characters that i saw in my life.

She does look good there yes. But she looked better in Star Trek as Uhura.

:hehe:

One subtle little thing I like is the reaction of Jake's ears when he sees that big monster run after him.

It's always the little things.

Someone asked this question in IMDB (I know not the greatest place for intelligent discussion) which is actually pretty good. I've been wondering about this myself as a lot of shots of the soldiers marching and when shooting at the Na'vi they also look very polished. Same with the shot of Jake strolling out of the plane on his wheelchair. Almost as if they've been touched up with a thin layer of cgi.

"I don't think Avatar was going for 100% photorealism, I think they wanted it to have a consistent, clean CG look, like a CG cartoon.

It appears to me that Cameron has actually had the CG guys touch up the humans (in most of the shots), so that they look very "clean" just like artificial graphics, to blend the humans into the footage.

However, a few shots left me wondering if those were actual human faces, or if they did even better than Beowulf and slapped photo-perfect 3D scans of the actors directly over footage. The one scene that makes me most suspicious is the shot of some general-type with slash scars on the side of his head, that doesn't look like makeup and it doesn't look like composited CG.

Only a few of the shots of humans look like perfectly natural footage, the rest of the human shots resemble extremely good versions of the Final Fantasy and Beowulf characters, but maybe the footage is just polished to look a bit shiny and blend in, like I was wondering.

Anyone know for sure? I haven't read enough about the effects, mostly just rumor."

Does anyone know what Cameron intends with Battle Angel and is it Battle Angel Alita or his own fresh new story?

I bet if Neytri was real some guys would literally sleep with. All 9 feet of her :wow:

Btw, I wasnt able to watch the footage and I had 4 tickets. haha...I would've loved to but I am poor and I dont want to waste my gas. Im not willing to drive 20-30 minutes to catch footage shorter than my drive to get there.
