When I was a kid I remember how like everyone loved the dude! Now, it's like there has been a growing dislike by some towards him

Someone explain what happened please!

This thread is so good. Discuss!

I've just found he's not been in much that was interesting recently so I stopped caring.

Because he's raised 2 insane children with no grasp on reality
Is that completely on him, or isn't that partly conducive with the environment that they are in based upon his status? I'm not trying to give everything they do a pass, but certainly it seems that Will is pretty much the same guy he has always been to me. Shade going on!

Between his kids increasingly bizarre philosophy(?) and his being in some disappointing movies lately I think he might have hit his high point and is now in a slow decline.

Many actors go through high and low points so it isn't all that unusual.

You can blame Scientology if you want but I think that's a cheap shot and I don't know how much of that really plays into it either. His kids though, they I think are an entirely different problem than Will's declining popularity.

Thing is, there are tons of teens on twitter and such saying stupid know it all stuff as if making epiphanies... they just aren't famous. We notice Jaden cause of the Will Smith celebrity status the family has. Saying dumb stuff that would be under the radar for a regular person his age on social media, but then it ends up snowballing into something bigger cause he has like a thousand times+ the amount of people viewing his stuff. eh

There was a point Will could do no wrong, and now that he's kinda ****ed up a few times it's become easy to potshot him, that's all. Concussion is something I am looking forward to checking out regardless.

He's had a few high-profile flops recently, so his star status has taken a hit, and a lot of people get satisfaction out of seeing a popular celebrity get taken down a notch for whatever reason (jealously?).

Also, some people dislike that he's a Scientologist (although he's pretty low-key about it compared to, say, Tom Cruise), and there's the feeling that he gets his annoying and untalented children high-profile movie and recording deals out of nepotism.

Isn't scientology that crazy religion that has odd passages like this? Man those freaks?!

"So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son."

"Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves."

“Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people.”

"Anyone who dishonors father or mother must be put to death. Such a person is guilty of a capital offense."

No wonder people keep hating on Tom Cruise solely for involving himself in such a belief system :o

;)

All we can do now is see what happens with Suicide Squad.

All eyes for the Suicide Squad are gonna be focused on Jared Leto's Joker and Margot Robbies Harley Quinn.

His niche is action comedy, and he hasn't done that in a long while. That's why I think his popularity has gone down.

I wasn't aware of the "growing dislike". He's not putting out projects like he was 8-10 years ago, but I assumed that was due to the responsibilities of fatherhood.

Perhaps his support of same-sex marriage ruffled a few feathers? His movie "Concussion" has some controversial themes, but it's nothing that hasn't been in the news before. I can't imagine either of these things accounting for a severe dip in popularity.

Let's be fair... While not one of them I remember even back in High School that there was a fair amount of people I knew that didn't like him, as is the case for many a celeb. He's now had a string of films that haven't exactly connected with audiences the way he previous work did. This has made the voices of those who never liked him to begin with to seem louder. He may bounce back, he may not. Either way, he's a big star that will be in films for decades to come.

It's probably that, more than anything else. With exception to his performance in The Pursuit of Happiness, I don't think Smith really excelled at being a dramatic actor.

The double whammy of not being in anything good in years and lots of media focus on his family

Collateral Beauty sounds pretty interesting. So does Concussion imo. Also there are a couple new Bad Boys movies coming in the next couple years. Then of course, Suicide Squad. Let's see if he gets back to form a bit.

I find it odd that we know Will Smith can be funny yet the only straight up comedy he's ever done was Hitch.

He has a lot of problems from a star perspective. Bad film choices, bad press, whatever has gone on with his kids. But his biggest problem is we now live in a franchise world, and he doesn't have a legit franchise.
