Can you convert quicktime video into mpeg video?

My new digital camera only shoots video in quicktime format so is there any way to convert the quicktime video into mpeg video without having to use special software or will the quicktime video work just the same as mpeg video when you transfer the video files to dvd?

^I think that one is a cheap video converting program. You need something more powerful like WinAVI.

I downloaded a couple of free trial versions of different software to see how well they would do, now I just need an MPEG video to GIF converter does anyone know of any free software for this?
