Candyman remake

I love the first film, not so sure about the trailer.

Talked to a friend of mine today that attended the early test screening that occurred the same night as the Halloween Kills test screening in LA. He said as a huge fan of the franchise, he outright hated this interpretation. Said in many ways it was a disappointment and did not live up to the Candyman name. When asked if he felt if was a solid thriller in it's own right, he replied that all around it was awful and that the group of friends he went with all felt similarly.

Let's hope they fix whatever issues this flick has before June.

I doubt there are issues to fix. It's most likely another horror remake that simply doesn't get or catch what made the original so great.

Edit: Just watched the trailer finally. Yeah, this is a rental. Looks and feels generic compared to the original. The voice is clearly touched up while in the original it was all Tony Todd's voice alone pretty much. The scene with the multiple girls in the bathroom alone set the mood as far as what this film is going for. They used a split second of Phillip Glasses's score (Helen's theme) which is a copout as far as I'm concerned.

As a huge Clive Barker fan and huge fan of the original film I'm not saying someone can't outdo the original but this one already looks like it missed the mark.

A lot of people will jump on it saying it's going to be great simply because Jordan Peele's name is attached even though he's only a producer for it.

Yup, and he's the one who initiated and developed the idea for the project. It's not like he just put his name on it and called it a day.

P.S.: So far, Jordan Peele simply has a great track record as a filmmaker and producer, so people are simply trusting him based on his successes. Doesn't mean they'll blindly like it because his name is on it.

I'm still puzzled as to how Disney won't let him take on the Gargoyles franchise like he wants. It'd make them more cash for sure, yet they refuse to bring it back.

Consider how expensive that project would be compared to these somewhat lower budget horror films.

Disney has given clout to guys with worse records lol.

I low key love that Vanessa Williams looks like she just stepped off the set of the original movie just to come into 2020 to film this one. Just beautiful.

I mean at first I was against this, just wanted them to leave it alone, but after this trailer I'm willing to give it a chance.

He co-wrote the script

Sure but he didn't direct it and this wouldn't be the first time someone who has a love for a certain film puts out a subpar remake.

I really like Peele's past work so I'll give this a chance, I just don't have high hopes is all.

I think his TV projects have been underwhelming so far between Twilight Zone and Hunters, but hopefully Lovecraft Country is great

Yeah, I’m not sure how strong Jordan Peele is as a producer considering the tepid response to his Twilight Zone revival, another love from his past. Hopefully this turns out more satisfying.

I think it's no secret that a true-to-source Gargoyles would never fit Disney's contemporary saccharine "one size fits all" brand model. I'm incredibly worried about what they're going to do to Hunchback with their remake.

I feel like after the PG-13 Mulan just got they're maybe getting back to their old ways of slightly more mature releases. I just know Peele mentioned last year he wanted to do something with the property but Disney wasn't into it.

Somehow I completely missed Gargoyles as a kid. I remember seeing an ad for it in a comic book once and that was it. Does it have a really big fan base? Because if it doesn’t, then maybe Disney views it as too big a risk to spend the money on, even if Peele wants to do it.

It was huge when I was a kid. At least in Europe. There are few people my age who don't remember it.

It has a cult following, but I wouldn’t say it’s stayed in the public consciousness like some cartoons from the past. That’s not a knock on its quality, just that it’s mostly remembered as that cool dark cartoon on Disney afternoons from a specific age group.

Because it’s too mature for them. The Lizzy McGuire reboot is being altered because it’s not ‘family friendly’ enough apparently . You think they would risk giving Gargoyles to Peele?

I think you are conflating two different issues. The Disney+ issues are unlikely to be why the are not greenlighting a Gargoyles movie.

Gargoyles would eventually end up on Disney plus. I think it's entirely related. I'm all for it being made especially if Peele is actually passionate about it, but it's a series that Disney can't do justice to unless they make it mature, which they won't.

It has been confirmed that yahya's character is the baby from the original Candman film.

Gargoyles was never any more mature than say what Mandalorian is doing.
