Oh woe, another classic horror film is being remade and this one obviously cannot garner the controversy the original did. Cannibal Holocaust caused such a storm when it was first released because the gore and violence was so real that many people thought it actually was, and so it was banned in many countries. The director was even jailed briefly until he could prove no one was actually killed! The film follows a group travelling to South America to find out what happened to a film crew who were never heard from after heading there to shoot a documentary about reputed cannibal tribes - you'd have thought they would have made the connection before they left!
They eventually find the undeveloped film and the remains of the crew, and the film shows exactly what happened to them all. Inspiration for The Last Broadcast and The Blair Witch Project?
Variety tell us who the producers are:
Relevant partner Michael Menchel and associate Steve Whitney will produce. The project is fully financed by Keith Previte of Scorched Earth Entertainment and Catherine Williams, who also will serve as producers. Paul Mason, Jordan Rush and Larry Joackim will exec produce.
Just to give us an idea, Whitney was on the production team for The Amityville Horror remake. Expect all the controversy and original impact to be gone.

DETAILS

- They're aiming to begin production in the summer.
- It's said that when the film premiered in 1980 Itallian director Ruggero Deodato was jailed for a brief period until he could prove the actors were unharmed. This was due to filming in a documentary style, which was uncommon at the time.
- The original film has been banned in many countries due to its violence and gore.
- Relevant Entertainment owns the remake rights.
- A remake of the controverial cult film from 1980.

Contains some spoilers from the original. In case someone hasn't seen it.
Hmm, I wonder if they'e gonna keep the documentary crew as the sadistic white men? Or are they gonna alter them as normal documentary crew who wen't to make a doc about the cannibal tribes, but then the cannibals had enough and hell breaks loose. I don't know which on I'd prefer. The latter would bring somewhat fresh viewpoint to it.

Kinda ironic that they're remaking the first "handheld-camera" (or whatever the correct phrase is) movie now when these are hot stuff. Blair Witch, [Rec], Cloverfield, Diary of the Dead, Quarantine, the end credits footage of Dawn of the Dead remake...

And Collateral and Outlaw which belong to some kinda sister genre or sub genre of these.

Is this one of the old Cannibal movies that actually had real native people in it, and actual killing of a turtle and monkey or something along those lines?
And a girl impaled and people thought she was actually killed for the movie?
If thats the one, I remember seeing it, pretty gross, bad movie overall, but I definitely don't see this being remade worth for crap as it won't be able to retain the original absurdity of it without breaking a few dozen laws.

Yep, that's the one. I actually own this movie yet haven't seen it with the animal killings yet (the DVD has a option where it'll automatically skip them).

Might as well skip it, it won't enrich your life to see animals being murdered, and if you have to see that, see it under a more poignant context such as with Earthlings.
But then again there is hardly any point of seeing this movie apart from its shock value.

Yea, the thing that they thought they were dealing with simpletons then exploiting them sorta showing they were just as bad as them was sort of a good idea, if they get past all the blood and guts, they could actually carve a semi-decent movie. Chances are it will be toned down and instantly forgettable.

Wow, and it has been up for over a year...
It's a very powerful movie, might be accused of being vegan propaganda, but you can't deny the plain truth of what your seeing.
I saw it 6 months or more ago, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I was moved to tears by the end of it, sobbing like a baby, and I hadn't really cried in years.

But I haven't committed myself to vegetarianism, bur I'm going to try to one day if I find a proper balance of food that'll supply me with all the proper protein chains I need to stay buff.

I use to work in a (pig) slaughterhouse as a cleaner, and to be honest, it wasn't no were near as bad as the ones portrayed in the first part of that movie. I cant watch the second part without creating an account cause someone flagged it for the sake of flagging it.
It's surprising they left out chickin battery farming.

not sure what you mean by battery farming, but they definitely got chicken farming in there.

Of course since they are trying to make a point, they'll show you the worse side of it... And although I bet this might be in the minority of slaughterhouses, that doesn't change the fact that it still goes on, in how large a scale who knows....

I can understand how people are trying to make a living, but some of these cruel fools make me want to give them a taste of their own medicine for tormenting animals who are providing us with subsistence.

I got nothing against meat eating, in fact I couldn't live without the taste of meat.
But I respect aboriginal, and basic nomadic methods of hunt and kill. Where due respect is given to the animal who unwittingly gives itself for our survival.

are you saying Earthlings is shock value or cannibal holocaust is? i hhavent seen earthlings, but theres actually some respectable depth to cannibal holocaust beyond its gruesome gore.

Cannibal Holocaust is definitely all about shock value, and it is all for naught.
Earthlings does try to shock you, but out of an urgency to raise awareness.

So it's two completely different things.

I can't believe they're doing this! The original is awesome, and does not need to be fudged with.
