Cap is now Hydra?

*sits back and waits for Marvel to quickly backtrack and make up an excuse like "Oh he's brainwashed/clone/skrull/whatever" in order to appease the angry masses*
I say this will only last a couple issues then they'll change everything back to normal.

I mean, in the interview, when asked if its a gimmick, the writer says "[Y]ou’ll have to read the rest of the story to see." So, in other words, it is absolutely a gimmick that will be completely undone by the end of the arc. My guess is it he is really a triple agent, taking Hydra down from within, or some such nonsense.

It's like when Hulk Hogan joined the nWo!

They're saying he's been HYDRA THIS WHOLE TIME. Like back from WWII days. Sorry, but that just doesn't make any sense at all.

yeah he's def a double/triple agent or something to that affect

I like to joke about this but never thought it would actually happen - lol

It'll be retconned soon though. I'm not even a Cap fan and I don't like the idea.

This is one of the stupidest ideas a comic company ever cane up with.

Who knows where this is going. I trust Spencer to deliver a strong story. Don't know if I'll be able to budget in this title though, with all the new Rebirth books coming out.

Maybe he'll just have borrowed the money from Stark and bought Hydra like Sunspot did AIM. :o

His mission is to further the goals and beliefs of Hydra," explained Brevoort. "If that involves taking down the Marvel universe, sure. (But) it may not be as simple as that. It’s not like he’s exchanged his white hat for a black hat — it’s a green hat. We knew it would be like slapping people in the face. The idea of Captain America means something very primal and very strong to the people of this nation, and they have a very visceral reaction when you get to something like that. You want people to feel and react to your story. So far, so good."

Yeah that's some "brilliant" logic there hey Brevoort, ugh.

Not only is it a slap in the face to long time Cap fans like myself it like being punched in the face kicked while on the ground and being spit on what an awful idea this is what they brought Steve Rogers back as Cap for to ruin his legacy and character what an awful stupid idea.

Oh yeah, this is going over well...

My bet is next issue Cap suddenly wakes up from a nightmare caused by some bad shawarma...

I'm not a fan of this...I realize it probably won't last and is just a marketing thing to get people to read this issue and the future ones, but it makes no sense at all....they're pretty much crapping on 75+ years of Captain America comics and what the character was built on :nuhu:

How many Hydra plots has he stopped over the years, 50 100? Sure him being a double agent will make sense ... not.

Minority and unpopular opinion: this is hilarious and fascinating.

Every six months or so Marvel comics does something very controversial to boost sales.

I guess it's about that time again.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. I know it won't last, but still not a good idea. This is a big reason that I don't read comics. I'd like to, but there's so many huge shakeups and big character changes all the time that I just don't know where to jump in. If I wanna read about Steve Rogers, as the hero Captain America, I can't get that from the main 616 universe right now.

That's a tough thing for Marvel to balance, on one hand they want to progress the characters, but on the other they want the characters to kinda stay the same and be accessible to fans coming over from other mediums like the films.

Next it'll be revealed that Gwen Stacy had kids with Norman Osborn... Oh... wait. So dumb. Talk about undermining what the character represents.

Annnnnnnnnd this is why Marvel fails (at least for me at the moment).

I like the tweet joking about Black Panther being a member of the KKK. :funny:

This whole arc is seriously stupid. Going undercover is one thing, going undercover for 75 years and ruining every Nazi/Hydra plot while actually working for them the whole time is another.

I'm not sure if America's history and the current rise of Trump warrants having a character called Captain America embodying noble virtues.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. I know it won't last, but still not a good idea.

And that's the point. It may be temporary, but it's still a stupid, crap idea and that may end up hurting Marvel and driving away fans. It seems like they don't mind trolling their fans and using cheap, half baked shock value ideas to generate headlines. Never mind the damage it can do to their credibility with their fans and readers.

What's even more stupid than making Captain America evil? The fact that they are saying the way it happens is that his mother was propagandized by Hydra when Steve was a little boy, you know before he was chosen as a worthy test case for the super soldier serum.
