DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SPOILED

SPOILER WARNING FOR CAPTAIN AMERICA #25
According to the New York Daily News, Captain America dies in issue #25, after being shot on the steps of the courthouse where he was to be arraigned.
"It's a hell of a time for him to go. We really need him now," co-creator Joe Simon, 93, told the News after being informed of his brainchild's death.
The News outlined Cap’s history up to the point of Civil War, quoting current Cap writer Ed Brubaker as saying:
"What I found is that all the really hard-core left-wing fans want Cap to be standing out on and giving speeches on the streetcorner against the Bush administration, and all the really right-wing [fans] all want him to be over in the streets of Baghdad, punching out Saddam," Brubaker said.
From the News:
Comic book deaths, however, are rarely final. Marvel's archrival, DC Comics, provoked a media frenzy when it killed off Superman in 1993, only to reanimate its prize creation a year later.
Joe Quesada, 43, Marvel Entertainment's editor in chief, said he wouldn't rule out the shield-throwing champion's eventual return. But for now, the Captain's fans are in mourning.

:wow:

Well that just sucks :(

I just saw the news. Why the f*** did they say cap was A) dead and B) shot by a sniper?! Not. Bloody. Kool.

dammit ! That does indeed suck. I've got faith in Brubaker though so we'll have to see I guess

Oh, I got faith in Ed, just sad, is all.

I'd say that damn the media for breaking this ahead of time - but given there are some quotes from Quesada and Brubaker, it might be that we are being seriously scammed by Marvel into believeing this in order to really get us with the real ending, or its so he aint really dead its a covert plot Cap's in on, or he is dead but'll be up and about in no time that it doesnt matter that Marvel has "let" the media spoil it.

a few things:

[BLACKOUT]1) this is dumb. even i'm starting ti get tired of this stuff and just want to read old school superhero stories again.

2) as dumb as it is, he'll return somehow. which makes his death even more stupid.

3) joe simon's still alive?![/BLACKOUT]

Lame.

As usual.

At least people like photojones are starting to see the light. Can we please just have some superhero stories now?

What is it with the Marvel universe's obsession with anonymous snipers?

Reserving judgment until after I actually read this. Prognosis is not...optimistic.

i think it fits the political climate that we live in.

So, Is our boy Buck gonna be the lead now?

I don't remember the last time our political climate led us to assassinate an American icon in broad daylight. Not our current political climate, at least. This is just shameless pandering to politics in order to look politically significant. Like that "homage" of Speedball getting shot, and those ridiculous war stories at the end of Frontline issues.

I get the feeling marvel wanted him dead at the end of civil war but miller wouldn't do it as he thinks "event deaths are cheap". This is their solution and it's completely pointless. I'm actually starting to come round to Doc's point of view on this. I want superhero comics, not super police, and not pointless deaths for shock value :(

Here's a hint marvel, the more shocking deaths you throw in the less shocking they become. Learn to try and write good stories and stop with these cheap tactics in their place. :cmad:

our climate is flux right now. keep your ears to the ground for the next 8 months or so. You will see, this might be a little to close to home before to long.
a great american icon dies, freedom is in question, ignorance thrives, people fear, people cry. 5 out of 6 so far.

i just thought of somthing on my way to work

[BLACKOUT]
perhaps this is why dr. strange has joined the new avengers. we DID see him poking around, looking for what seemed to be captain america on a table.

now, we were just "reminded" of the good doctor's skills as a surgeon thanks to bkv.

could dr. strange save steve rogers?
[/BLACKOUT]

Marvel is notorious for not being on top of all their departments and letting stuff slip out. If the media is involved it's because Marvel gave them the story to run. They probably think it's better the story gets spoiled and they get the publicity for the story early so they can make the most money out of it. We would now have something that fits the Fallen Son mourning stages thing since the CW ending didn't deliver in that aspect.

To true: dont know what to do THEY kill off the character.SAD

Glad I dropped all my Marvel titles after Civil War 7. Joe Q needs to get the message that these are not the kind of stories fans are interested in reading.

we say that, and then marvel posts record sales.
