Back then DiCaprio sure turned down a lot of big, successful films and he still managed to continue as big successful star.

It would be a bit awkward to see Luke winning over, redeeming Vader in the same film as, possibly just scenes after, Anakin growing estranged from and mistreating Padme, likewise to see Palpatine be defeated just by being taken by surprise close to him being successful manipulator taking down all the Jedi, having a lot of flashbacks seems very different version of SW and isn't done that often or well generally, though it did work quite well in first part of BB, showing both early stages and some beginnings even before them. Although then Man of Steel felt like it had flashbacks just to also have them, probably would have been better just chronologically.
