Arnie was at the height of his awesomeness in 1988. Plus, with the limitations of VFX back then, you'd need someone with quite a bit of size for the role of The Thing.

Now this would have been a perfect cast for Fantastic Four especially Alec Baldwin as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic and then Sharon Stone as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman

Now Tom Cruise as Johnny Storm/Human Torch I would definitely go with him but my second choice in the role of Human Torch at that time would have been Emilio Estevez

But as Ben Grimm/The Thing, Arnold Schwarzenegger is actually perfect casting especially in 1988 he would have been perfect in the role

Alan Rickman as Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom is perfect even though I would have went with either Gary Oldman or even Willem Dafoe as Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom

But then you would have a perfect set up for your 1988 Fantastic Four
