Early 90s or mid-late 90s? If we're talking mid-late 90s then Hal probably would have been the villain/anti-hero antagonist Parallax (possibly getting a heroic sacrifice at the end ala Final Night) with Kyle Rayner as the main character and Alan Scott as his mentor.
