Despite federal law barring discrimination in employment based on race, 69 percent of all casting notices this past summer specifically asked for white actors, according to a study by the UCLA School of Law and the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center, and reported in today's (Friday) Los Angeles Daily News. "Casting directors take into account race and sex in a way that would be blatantly illegal in any other industry," Study author Russell Robinson observed. The study also found that ethnic minorities were not cast in about 80 percent of first-, second- and third-billed leading roles. "When we get to the bus captains and the busboys [roles], then we get into the Latinos," commented Alex Nogales, president of the National Hispanic Media Coalition.

I don't want to see a white Bernardo or Chino in West Side Story. :csad:

aren;t you allowed to do that....

i mean...depending on where and when whatever it is is set a black character might appear very out of place...

man, I can't wait for the "all white" remake of roots.
I hope Ashton Is free to play Kunta Kinte.

No, man. That role is reserved for Jackie Chan. He's going to play it Drunken Monkey style.

I always thought that Jackie Chan would be perfect to play the role of Touleuse Latrec in his bio pic, or of another frenchman Passaportout in "Around the World in 80 days"............

..................wait a sec.

Well ya' know, I don't think anybody would want a Mexican James Bond.

"Bond......... Chico Bond...."

To be fair, for example if you need someone to play Batman, you aren't accepting Mexican applications.

It still seems a little racist though

Well what kind of name is it? And what does being a fan of Dragon Ball Z have to do with it?

that's more like it...... though Jaime would've been the appropriate response.

I don't expect much from dragonball fans.

This is more in tune with them kind of writing a character with a certain race in mind, as many filmmakers do. Some have casting calls for any race to try out, but they do write certain parts for certain races at times. James Cameron's Avatar casting call sheet specfically requested that the main hero had to be caucasian, whereas his love interest could be any race. Go figure that one, but hey.

Movies that have minorities cast into roles that are not historically accurate, are silly. History shouldn't be changed to accomidate minorities. It would also be stupid to have a white guy as the leading character in Friday, as well as a black Ricky Bobby.

Why coudlnt a white guy star in friday, oh thats right white's dont do drugs:whatever:

They got a latino chick in the form of Alba to play the invisible woman, who btw is as white as they come.:o

I'm sure Ben Affleck would have been great playing a slave in Amistad.

This is from The Onion...isn't it?:(

I'm in no way a racist.

But with acting it's different. you are looking for a specific type of person.

You aren't gonna get a goldfish to do a sharks job per se.

If you get what I mean.

Sometimes a certain role requires a certain race.

But if a role isn't required to be played by someone of a certain race, then the best man should surely get the job.

A. She's pretty much white.
B. It wouldn't matter if she were a 400 pound black woman, because that movie was awful.
C. I was generalizing. What I meant (and I shouldn't have to explain this) is that certain characters are of certain races and those who don't look anything like the appropriate race shouldn't have to be cast because of pressure.
