Casting Companies Put Out "Whites Only" Signs

I don't expect much from dragonball fans.

I like alot of different anime better, like Trigun and Avatar, which I consider anime because its better than real anime. That season finale tonight was great.

Uh... but the thing that sucks is there isn't enough real minorites on TV and in the movies... I mean, everyone who's not black or white...

as for certain roles, that's understandable... Bruce Wayne has to be white... sadly me playing the role is outta the question...

but c'mon, i wanna see some more diversity... I mean, i saw Stranger than Fiction, which was good, but it was very white...

"Saw" was pretty white too... I mean, i wanna see people die... it doesn't matter their skin color... haha...

But it'd be okay if the sign said "Blacks Only", I'm certain.

Hey, whites weren't oppressed for over 400 years. Some things just aren't the same.

Double standards are double standards are double standards. No two ways about it.

changes are coming....maybe, maybe not; but "hollywood" is migrating east...

there seems to be a more level playing field here in NY... or so my actor friend has been telling me.

on one hand i don't see a problem with casting by race (or writing a character by race....same thing)...on the other hand i can't imagine ANYONE playing King Pin better than MCD did so....

That really shouldn't be an excuse. I'd happily point that out to a black man.

You know what I find weird? That people who had nothing to do with slavery have to pay money to people that were never slaves, all because of their ancestors.

Catholics have suffered just as much at the hands of the Brits. Where's my money? :(

To be fair, for example if you need someone to play Batman, you aren't accepting Mexican applications.

It still seems a little racist though
It IS Hollywood, after all.

Normal rules don't apply.

Has anyone actually put up "Blacks Only"?

A. She's pretty much white.
B. It wouldn't matter if she were a 400 pound black woman, because that movie was awful.
C. I was generalizing. What I meant (and I shouldn't have to explain this) is that certain characters are of certain races and those who don't look anything like the appropriate race shouldn't have to be cast because of pressure.

i liked ff =(

I always thought that Jackie Chan would be perfect to play the role of Touleuse Latrec in his bio pic, or of another frenchman Passaportout in "Around the World in 80 days"............

..................wait a sec.

I want to see a remake of "Mississippi Is Burning" where all the Klansmen are black guys and the people being harrassed and persecuted are a bunch of whiteys.

I think when there's a movie focusing on a particular background, then yeah, they do need to have casting calls for a certain group only. A movie about Irish mobsters, yeah, there are blacks in Ireland, but I would assume they'd all want white guys for the role. Now something like a sci-fi fantasy, the hero could be asian, black, white, whatever....but a lot of times unless it's specified, they normally request the main protagonist be a white guy, and his romantic lead could also be white, but they've gone the minority route with the damsel in distress.

You're right. In sci fi films the hero is typically white. When Star Trek was first aired, there was all sorts of contraversy over the fact the crew members were mixed.

I dunno what can be done about it. I think Hollywood is racist to a certain extent. Take sitcoms, for example. Typically the cast would be all white... unless it was a black comedy, in which case the cast is all black. The times in white sitcoms where you would see a mexican or an asian, the character would play up to stereotypes. Accents are funny :whatever: Now that I think about it, when you look at black sitcoms... when there's white guys in black sitcoms (like Fresh Prince) typically the white guys are nerdy!

It's already been done. It's called training day.

I never took offense to it, though. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was a brilliant show, and I thought the nerdy white dudes were hilarious. Plus the show itself pointed out that white people are also on the receiving end of discrimination, too, what with Will's mother objecting to her sister's marriage to a white man and such.

I don't know the circumstances under which that sign was put up. If they specifically needed someone white for the role or whites for the roles, then I could see why. But in that case they'd be better advised to specify that on the sign, because anyone can tell you that a simple "Whites Only" sign is begging for trouble, especially in a world where whites are sometimes considered the only group capable of racism. :whatever:

This argument is always trite and inconsequential.

This does not suprise me,as even with the influx of minorties the USA still has a firm white base. Its sad, that equality only exists on paper.

Look, its stupid. Could they have used different wording? Sure, bt youre not going to cast Morgan Freeman as the leader of the KKK.
