I'm curious. What are your qualms with this JJJ?
I don't mind JJJ being comic relief, but he is one-note. It is very obviously based on JK Simmons's interpretation of the character. But Simmons played the role as a very minor supporting character because JJJ was never going to have a large part in the movies. Instead he is there for comic relief and he took the essence of the character and added that motormouth aspect to him and was perfect and fit in very well.
The cartoon I think (wrongfully) is using that motormouth one-note version of him, because it is the popular one since the movies. But in a cartoon, like the comics, you have more room to expand on him and make him more interesting. Instead the voice actor sounds like a bad impression of Simmons and he is just kind of dull. I compare him to Ed Asner's JJJ in TAS, who had a real personality and was very funny, but also had a serious and intriguing side like in the comics. He cared about helping Peter and Robbie when they were both framed on seprate occasions and helping S.H.I.E.L.D. or finding Felcia Hardy when she was kidnapped. He did stupid funny things but he had a compassionate side, best illustrated in the wedding episode with Peter and MJ that was inadvertantly funny (he gave Peter a car to outdo Fisk and show respect, but it is a busted news van).
I feel this SSM version of JJJ will not give fruit to that, because he is only comic relief and they took the cosmetic attributes of Simmons's performance and not the whole thing when reinterpreting for him in the cartoon.
But still not a major factor in the enjoyment of the show.
