Yeah, the 90s cartoons (Iron Man Season 2, Spidey:TAS, X-Men: TAS), as good as we may remember them being, were made as cartoons by their showrunners.

Timm and co wanted to do something different, make it more cinematic and less like a cartoon. Spectacular is more in that vein than the 90s series were.

I understand that Green Goblin is going to be in the next few episodes, right?

The next three episodes. Seems like he'll be the real villain of the entire arc.

Likely Peter will do nasty stuff under the symbiotic influence that makes Brock way PO'ed.

Of course I do have to wonder why, once he gets the symbiote and Peter's memories, why he won't suddenly understand that Peter isn't a sellout at all and he's really been helping everyone as Spider-Man.

Well, I do remember the writers said Eddie Brock was going to be insane or something to that extent. If he gets overwhelmed by his madness, and with the symbiote perhaps corrupting him even more, I think that he'll be too far gone, perhaps lost completely. I suppose only time will tell. Naturally, being a fan of the symbiote saga, I am most looking forward to this arc.

This is good to know!

The Green Goblin appearing in three episodes is like a dream come true. Well, for me atleast. I mean, he's my second favorite Spidey Villian and I just think he's so awesome!

Did anyone catch the quick animation coloring mistake in this episode?

When JJJ and John Jameson are running down the stairs to get away before the Goblin's bomb goes off, John suddenly figures out the bomb is in the chandelier and turns back. As John is turning around, there's a close-up of his head, and his hair is colored blonde like Eddie Brock's instead of orange. The digital colorist must have gotten confused since John's facial features are drawn similar to Eddie's.

This makes up for Spider-Man: TAS giving us Hobby before GG and making us wait so long for GG. Also, by the time we got to the whole "portal technology" arc, I was starting to hate GG.

John and Eddie are drawn very similar.

Anyone else think Sally need a nice, cold refreshing glass of shut the eff up? Its like a rising knee to the face. That and she need to be introduced to a flight of stairs.

Anyone else find it funny that when Spidey was falling because he was out of web-fluid. there was a shot in an office building where they were showing some bug killer spray? That made me chuckle. :woot:

I didn't see that. I'll have to check it out. :woot::up:

Has anyone seen a "Hi Def" version of this episode online? The usual guys, CP, don't seem to have one of Catalysts... :(

I wanted to ask this for days now! There is no a High Def version of the episode?! Why...? :csad:

Finally got around to seeing it.

So far I think they've done a great job with the fight sequences and this one has been the best so far. The banter between Spidey and the Goblin was a nice touch.

I like what I've seen of MJ so far, they have her as someone who knows how to deal with the "in crowd" and her saving the last dance for Peter struck me as classy.

Plus seeing the expressions on everyone's face when they saw Peter and MJ arrive at the dance was priceless.

I agree.

From a girl's POV, as a Spidey fan, I've enjoyed the mix of villian encounters (Spidey acrobatics and banter) with Pete's private life. I was looking forward to MJ's apperance and hope we see MUCH more of her.

If they stay loosely true to the comics, SHE will like him, but play it cool... but his attentions will turn to Gwen for awhile. But if they go with virtually all the other influences, she and Peter should be an item sooner than later.

As a Peter/MJ fan, I'm hoping for the latter. ;)

Hey, I'd like to have at least ONE version of Spider-man to enjoy... All the others have been DUMPED thanks to JQ's sucky vision of Spidey's future.

Betty looked pretty taken by John. Here's hoping they hook up.

There is no truth to that whatsoever.

And do you even know what GOOD ANIMATION IS? That was so slow and crappy looking... take off the nostalgia tinted glasses and look again.

I'll say this much about the animation; The action sequences are superb and their fluidity sometimes tastes like a Disney flick. The general actions and captures of human body language are acceptable. But sometimes things just don't look look physically right. Take the cheerleading scene in Reactions for example. They just stood on each other's thighs like it was nothing. Also, there are instances where Ock and Vulch's claws do things they don't appear to be designed for. Finally, sPidey's webs occasionally seem to have a mind of their own.

I won't even bring up Invisible hand because that ep pretty much threw up in the face of the laws of physics.

Mary Jane was almost TOO cool... like... she's perfect, and Gwen, who, honestly, is awesome, was admittedly petty... what's going on here?

And what's up with Harry? I feel like I missed an episode...

Gwen thinks Peter lied about not going to the formal. Seeing him show up with MJ, hurt her a bit.

As for Harry, he's drinking some poison green Kool-Aid called Gobulin Green.

Sorry to be late on commenting.

This has to be my favorite so far. The best Spidey/Goblin battle presented in either film or TV. Sorry if some of this has been mentioned, but I think Norman is the Goblin. He knew where to find those thugs trying to crack the safe and about the Big Man's organization. I think the whole Harry thing is 1) a red herring to the Goblin ID, 2) a source for Harry's sudden confidence and athletic ability, and 3) a way to get in Harry's drug addiction while avoiding real drugs on a Saturday morning cartoon.

Random things I liked:

The Bugle was still a mess after the Rhino's rampage.
The little "screams" the Goblin's bombs made.
Intro of Prof. Warren. He looks just like the Prof. Warren of Pete's high school in the comics, which I believe was a different Prof. Warren than the one from college who became the Jackel (and looked different).

Also, I think based on MJ's action, she knows Pete's Spidey, (like in the comics).

actually the warren we saw in that episode was also in the pilot he is the bro to the guy who becomes the jackel. It was stated many times by Greg W. they are using characters who have appeared in any era of spidey and not creating any new characters.

The Bugle WAS still a mess, and I thought that was an excellent touch for a kids' show. Continuity can be a beautiful thing.
