Starting tonight (5/3) with Raiders of the Lost Ark:

CBS has announced plans to launch a Sunday movie night in May featuring five acclaimed films from the Paramount Pictures library: Forrest Gump, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Mission: Impossible, and Titanic.

Honestly, there is a part of me that feels a weird sort of nostalgia for the pre-cable, pre-home video, WAY pre-streaming era where this is the only way you could see a movie once it’s left theaters.

I mean, I’d hate to live there all the time, but still... :o

I know what you mean! It made watching the movie more special and exciting. It's not the same when you can watch the movie any time you want to.

And a big movie coming on TV was a major event, and when you watched it you knew a lot of other Americans were watching it with you. It was sort of a communal experience. Same with big miniseries and annual favorites like The Wizard of Oz.

We don't have big TV events any more, and that is a shame. Except for sporting events.

I hope CBS gets good ratings with this, maybe they'll do it more often. And maybe other networks will do similar retro event programming, like showing big miniseries from the 1970s and 1980s.

I’m watching Raiders of the Lost Ark and honestly, kudos to CBS for respecting aspect ratio.

Watched it last night and had a blast. It’s been years since I’ve seen it. Kind of cringed at the dialogue though...especially when Indy meets Marion for the first time in the movie. She said she was just a child when they had their affair. Was Indy a pedo? Well, anyway, he did what he did and she doesn’t have to be happy about it!

Just bumping to say that 'Forrest Gump' is on tonight (5/10).

Just bumping to say that 'Titanic' is on tonight (5/24) starting at 7:00 EST.

'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' wraps up the CBS Sunday Night at the Movies series tonight (5/31) at 8 PM EST.

Now bring back the afternoon Dialing For Dollars movie! I saw the beginning of Perry Mason: The Case of the Skin-Deep Scandal but I missed the ending because I had to return a rented DVD player to Blockbuster.

I've always taken that as exaggerating for dramatic effect. People do that sort of thing.

I thought they were ending it last night, but it looks like they're going to be showing a singalong version of 'Grease' next week!

Let's all do a Zoom call where we each play a part. I call Sandy, and I will fight any rotten SOB who tries to claim that role as his own.

Crud. I hate that I missed out on these. Sunday night movie would’ve brought back such nostalgia. I want my kids to experience this.

Well, there's still tomorrow night's showing of Grease, and maybe they'll keep doing it through the summer. Guess we'll see!

ABC has also been doing Wonderful World of Disney on Wednesday nights. Next Wednesday (June 10) they're showing Big Hero 6.
