CERN discovers particle that travels faster than the speed of light!

Wow, this is awesome. This is why I laugh at skeptics of any field... they insist beyond doubt that something cannot exist, cannot happen... and here a major rule of physics has just been broken. Something travels faster than light :wow:

Most likely we will take this and make a weapon out it like when we split the atom and made nuclear bombs.

The human race is stupidly self destructive half the time.

I sadly agree. This particle should never be apart of anything destructive.

It hasn't been confirmed yet. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

If and when it is confirmed, you'll know it because very skeptical scientists will have been convinced. :cwink:

Even the scientists who were there are not sure of it.

CERN isn't even stating for certain it's the case; simply that the appearance is such right now. They're being very cautious. Put their findings up on the web so others can analyze. No one wants to look like an idiot.

I hope this can be confirmed, because if it can? It really will rock the scientific community like nothing else since perhaps we split the atom.

This would really change... so much. Not in any of our lives, but, just the ability for anything to break what was thought to be so concrete of a barrier... it opens the doors of possibilities so widely...

Oh, and I can't wait to see how "The Big Bang Theory" handles this, lol.

People watch the Big Bang theory? That's a bigger surprise than this news.

Geoff Johns is claiming that it's Barry Allen...

So I mean, if they repeat this and it is heavily examined by others and it holds up to be true, what does it mean?

Particles that can move faster than light?

What could that mean for our technology? Could it be adapted to space flight? Could it open up the possibility of time travel?

Wait, so does that mean that Steins;Gate was right? :wow:

Slow down buddy. You're getting way ahead of yourself.

And it's skeptical thinking (you know, the basis of the scientific method) that will get to the bottom of this anomaly.

So... up until this, light was the fastest thing ever? That's more news than this discovery is.

I could have sworn that there was a bunch of quantum **** that was faster than light.

Chuck Norris' fists travel faster than the speed of light [/2006]

Quantum teleportation, where you can transfer information between entangled particles faster than light. The difference is, no particles are moving.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_teleportation

Quantum teleportation, or entanglement-assisted teleportation, is a process by which a qubit (the basic unit of quantum information) can be transmitted exactly (in principle) from one location to another, without the qubit being transmitted through the intervening space."

I can assure you that I knew nothing about that.

Any updates on this?

I call BS, because it was Coldplay who said that the speed of sound shows us how we all began.
