Spoilers for Nathan and Linderman:
LINDERMAN REVEALS PLANS: "HEROES" CLIP FROM PALEY FESTIVAL
by Emmett Furey, Staff Writer
Posted: March 11, 2007 — More From This Author

Editors Note: The following article contains spoilers.
Last night, CBR News attended the “Heroes” Screening and Q&A at the Museum of Television & Radio’s Paley Festival, and was privileged to see a clip from the upcoming episode “.07%.” Read on for our spoiler-filled recap.
In the most recent episode, the ubiquitous Linderman made his first appearance, and told Nathan Petrelli that the congressional candidate was destined to be commander in chief. In “.07%” Linderman continues his pitch.
In the scene, Linderman entertains Nahan in an art gallery which showcases his extensive art collection, paintings of the future all, by Isaac Mendez and people like him. Included among the paintings were those of the fictional Japanese warrior Takezo Kensei. “We all have our roles to play in the events to come,” Linderman says. “This isn’t just a collection of art. This is a road map. These artists envision a brighter future. Peace, prosperity.”
Nathan jabs his finger at a painting of the New York explosion and asks: “Is this your idea of a brighter future?”
“What if I was to tell you that it was?” Linderman replies.

Linderman goes on to explain that he, too, has powers, which came with an audible reaction from the audience. He’d become aware of them years earlier, and banded together with others like him “to make a difference to the world.” But some of his comrades in arms lost their way. “Greed set in, and we split apart. And all the good we’d done, well, it amounted to nothing,” Linderman says.
Then Linderman drops a bombshell, literally and figuratively: the explosion is to be the catalyst for a better future. When Nathan wonders out aloud about the cost in lives, Linderman counters, “There’s six and a half billion people on the planet, that’s less than .07%. Come on, that’s an acceptable loss by anyone’s count.”
“It is your destiny, Nathan, to be the leader who uses this event to rally a city, a nation, a world,” Linderman continues. And to drive the point home, Linderman unveils a prophetic painting of Nathan Petrelli in the Oval Office, seemingly painted by Isaac Mendez.
“If you know all this, you also know the exploding man is my brother Peter,” Nathan says.
“As I said, we all have our role to play. Peter’s curtain call will come the day after you’re elected.”
“.07%,” the first of the final five episode of “Heroes’” first year, is scheduled to air on April 23rd on NBC. Look for a full report on the MT&R "Heroes" panel Monday, right here on CBR. Meanwhile, head over to the CBR Forums and discuss these latest spoilers with fellow fans.

Hm...I wonder if they'd knock off Peter? He's pretty much been one of the "main" characters...

My gut instinct tells me Linderman is full of bull, and is saying he has powers and the Mendez painting to set up Nathan, seeing that he was about to kill him.

it pretty much makes sense, if you pay attention to the bigger picture that has been unfolding so far

which makes way for lots more speculations and theories :)

Even if they don't "knock off" Peter, there's really nothing for him to do after he stops the bomb...

I really like this title... I do wonder what Linderman's power is... and who the others like him are... I guess I'm supposed to...

April 23rd... I really need to forget about this show.

Dear God, am I the only one seeing how blatantly they ripped off
Watchmen
? I mean, its just incredibly obvious, and moreso, sickening. Unless its a total swerve and its just a reference, or a fakeout clip filmed JUST for that event (doubtful).

If I cared enough to try I could find a way Watchmen ripped off some other story or stories. So many things have been written into comics by now it's hard not to find similarities somewhere, doesn't mean it was a rip off.
There is no sense in anyone getting agitated over this.

dear god, do you know just how many millions of Heroes viewers have NEVER read Watchmen?

Ohhhh I like.

I like the idea of a secret society of superhumans led by Linderman.

I hope there's flashbacks.I wonder if Papa Petrelli was part of this society and died because of something related, not the "suicide/delusions of grandeur" explanation.

If Heroes is going to rip off something - it might as well be Watchmen.

I mean why not try to emulate perfection?

This isnt a "oh this is paying tribute to this" or anything like that. This is complete plagiarism.
Former superhero from an "older" generation of heroes goes mad wanting to bring the world together, and kills everyone in new york so the world leaders will stop all fighting to unite under this new utopia.
If anyone has EVER read watchmen, it's too blatant. This isn't like Superman Returns using the bullet-in-eye shot from Supreme Power, this is like if Syler were to throw Claire off a bridge, and Peter has to shoot web and save her.

Also, you COULD find similarities in watchmen to other stuff. It was completely written as a statement about the comic book industry, and trying unconventional things.

It WOULD be fine... except WB is now making a Watchmen movie. I dont know about you, but I absolutely can't wait for all the dummies to walk out saying "Man, they totally ripped that ending off from Heroes"

wanna bet they're gonna make a big twist out of this that nobody is expecting?

I'd really like to see how a lot of the people whining about this ripoff will get their words served to them on a silver plater

Who says that's the reason he does it? We dont know how blowing up New York features into his "better world". It seems very likely it has anything to do with faking a threat from aliens to unite world leaders. It looks more like he's trying to use it as a way to get Nathan into office so he can control the President.

This is totally horrible. And coming right on the heels of the hidden Rorschach test movie. I'm a huge Watchmen fan, and as soon as I read that description of the plot, I flipped my lid. I love Heroes, but that better be just a tip of the hat to Watchmen fans rather than the actual ending, because that is about the worst thing I have ever heard.

I know Kring doesn't read comics, but Jeph Loeb is on staff and I have to think that this is if not a red herring, just a nod to the classic story. There's no way they thought this up and took it to Loeb..."Uh...this is the ending to one of the most famous and renowned comic book stories of all time. You can't do this."

How much do you want to bet that the others Linderman split with are the one's behind HRG's company.

Possibly.

This is one of the coolest reveals of the show. But with only 5 eps left,I doubt they're going to get into it a great deal.

Could be pushed to season 2 though.

All of a sudden, that silly now downshot rumor of having the second season set in the past doesn't sound so lame.

Like Sylar, Linderman looks like he's going to be a really creepy (and awesome) character for the show.

How much do you want to bet that the others Linderman split with are the one's behind HRG's company.

I'm thinking the same thing.

Interesting points in the article:

Linderman entertains Nathan in an art gallery which showcases his extensive art collection, paintings of the future all, by Isaac Mendez and people like him
So it looks like after Issac is gone, there will be another like him in Season 2.

Linderman goes on to explain that he, too, has powers, which came with an audible reaction from the audience.
I think its a power that would gives him a complete advantage in business deals. Why else would he be filthy rich?

Peter’s curtain call will come the day after you’re elected.
Looks like Peter won't survive at the end of the season. which is good news to me. He's becoming more and more annoying as this season continues.

I think Linderman has some sort of power of persuasion,or something mind related.

I want more insight on this secret society he formed though.

I really don't think Peter will die, mostly because of what Future Hiro told him in the subway

Kring has never read watchman unless he is a liar, he doesn't really read comics. So its more likely a societal meme, its not an original idea by far anyway. A little evil to do a lot of good, done throughout history and countless mediums. It was original simply because it was in the comics medium. Although the idea was explored before then by Moore himself with Miracleman. Moore didn't think of it first, and his watchmen version of it was utterly ******ed anyway. An invading race made up of several hundred 'species' where they simply all teleport here to invade without sodding testing it first, wiping out their entire race? Yeah, lets unite over that. Frankly, I'd feel pretty damn safe knowing how idiotic aliens apparently are.

No, Heroes is a REAL threat. Linderman simply wants to sit back and allow it to happen rather than prevent it. Quite different. One that has more in common with Marvels civil war ****e.

Exactly, the comic book industry. TV had explored this idea countless times before and after. This only happens to include superhumans like Watchmen (although they weren't really super for the most part anyway).

I kind of figured that Linderman was part of a larger organization and I figured he was together with Hiro's Father and Nathan's father and that at least one of them if not all had abilities.

But considering Linderman's current position and seeming criminal activities it is likely he was the one who became greedy. Possibly killing of Papa Petrelli.

this does not truly bother me being that all comics in modern times are rip offs of older comics, if anything it just makes the show more like a comic book.

I don't buy that Kring doesn't read comics. That's just his excuse for blatantly ripping off the X-men series. Do I still love Heroes?

Hell yeah.
