Cheerleading isn't a sport?

Neither is Ballroom Dancing.

1. No one is actively trying to make you lose.

2. You aren't on any sort of time trial.

3. I've seen non athletic cheerleaders.

Cheerleading is NOT a sport. It's a dance exhibition.

It's not a sport. If the voting is not based upon actual scoring, but on judges giving you points then the points system is pretty arbitrary. Cheerleading, ballroom dancing, figure skating, synchronized swimming, anything where you don't score your own goal, basket, touchdown, try or point is not a sport.

Cheerleading, Marching Band, and Ballroom Dancing aren't sports.

No matter what level the team is at (high school, college, or pro), being an athletic supporter isn't a sport.

This.

The fact that it's not a sport doesn't change the fact that it does take a level of skill.

There are other activities that take a certain amount of skill but aren't sports

it's competitive, it's not a sport and Quinnipiac was wrong for trying to use it as a replacement for cutting the volleyball team

Its not a sport. Its just a show for guys like us to oggle over. End Thread.

sport (spôrt, sprt)
n.

Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.

There are competitive cheerleading teams all across the US, and they are judged based on performance just like gymnastics. So fine if yall don't want to call cheerleading a sport, just don't consider gymnastics one either.

No, I don't think it is. And neither is golf. I don't give a damn what anyone says.

The reason people want cheerleading to be considered a sport is for more government protection. In high school there's more injuries involving cheerleaders than anything else. That's because there's very little safety regulations. The coaches don't even have First Aid Kits and Sports Medicine training. It's kind of ridiculous when you think about it. Cheerleading isn't just dance. It's also gymnastics. So, more pre-caution needs to be taken.

??? where do you live....most schools around here require that coaches of any kind have First Aid/CPR training...a friend of mine who's a cheerleading coach is about to get her Masters in Sports Medicine

most schools

No, not really. Since cheerleading isn't considered a sport it doesn't fall under the same regulations. Schools that enforce strong safety measures are doing it at their own discretion.

I say no.

It's more of a dance than an actual sport... I mean, there just aren't the rules and regulations like there is for other sports. Just because they're on a field doesn't mean it is a sport... but there's nothing wrong with it not being a sport, so I don't know why people make such a fuss about it.

I don't consider gymnastics a sport, so we're good :)

Well, at any rate its more of a sport than NASCAR.

That said, its nice to see tax dollars wasted debating whether or not it is in federal court.

hahahahaha, all they do is turn left!...

but on topic, yes, i think it is a sport

It's more of a dance

If it were simply dance then it would be considered an art form. Since there's gymnastics involved then that's where the sports debate comes in.

I simply said it was more of a dance than a sport. Not a whole dance by itself, of course.

According to Harvard and ESPN, marching band is a sport.

This judge apparently was never a cheerleader, never went to cheer camp, and has absolutely no idea what the hell they are talking about....

Nah, cheerleading isn't a sport, even though most of your male bases are ex-football players. OR, the fact that gymnastics IS A SPORT....

Just ridiculously ignorant...

Nah this isn't a sport....

Pure ignorance on the part of the judge.
