The Chicago Fire spin-off, I actually thought this was dead in the water but it starts on January 8th.

I liked the first episode, the unit are a good mix of characters and Voight is very much in the Vic Mackey mold. It was a shame they killed Jules off straight away though.

I dug the first ep as well. Some of the stuff they did seemed far-fetched even for TV cops but I'll allow it

I knew Jules was gone the second she made plans to get drinks later. You never make plans for the future, that's how you get shot lol.

I liked the first ep so far, but then I liked that police drama series from a couple of years ago that got cancelled called The Chicago Code, so what do I know?... *shrugs*

That and the fact the actress was listed as a guest star, they even through in the happy family moment at the start just to make it sadder. :( It sucks because I thought she was better than either of the other two female cops, espeically Bush who is tough to buy as a badass cop.

Interesting to see that when the show returns after the Winter Olympics it will have a crossover episode with SVU, didn't realize they were going to inhabit the same world.

I figure since this series is produced by Dick Wolf, it's a spinoff of Chicago Fire, it had a crossover with Law And Order: SVU, and its recent renewal... This show isn't going anywhere, and I don't think I'm the only one watching.

Overall I think this season was pretty paint by numbers as far as cop procedurals go, but there's nothing wrong with that, especially following the hour of depression that is SVU, mindless cop drama is a welcome pallet cleanser.

Early on, not many of the characters stood out... It took me a few episodes to even remember who was who, since like 4 of the male leads are tall, fit, white guys who were wearing leather jackets. As the season went on though, the series and characters began to take shape. I'm glad I stuck with the series, especially now that it's been renewed.

Thoughts on the finale or season on a whole?

I think the show had a solid first season and I agree that it did a good job developing each of the characters week to week, this might allow them to try an overarching plot next season beyond Voight's IA issues.

I have to say Sophia Bush won me over across the season and I really like Elias Koteas' Alvin, he adds some world weary grit to the younger element of the show.

I didn't expect poor Jin to die and the ending seemed designed to make us question whether it was Voight or the IA guy that killed him, my guess is neither, maybe Sydney Poitier? I have to think her character is more than she seems.

I'm also guessing that Erin's little addict hooker project will become the secretary for the unit next season. It will be interesting to see what happens with Burgess as the ending didn't enhance her shot at joining intelligence any time soon.

I think Alvin is probably one of my favorite characters on the show. The scene he shared with his wife after he and Voight left the docs, hit me hard. I didn't really keep up with Elias Koteas' career after the Ninja Turtles movies, but I'm very glad he's a part of this show.

I could see Voight being behind Jin's murder. Simply because Voight doesn't tolerate rats and he wanted to send a message to Stillwell(?). But, on the other hand I could also see Sumner and Sitwell orchestrating the murder with the intention of making Voight the fall guy... Though, I don't see the point in that seeing as how Sitwell is now taking kick backs from Voight.

Antonio's family leaving felt rushed. Had we seen a bit more of he and his wife having arguments or even disagreements here and there throughout the season regarding his job, it would have played better for me.

Erin's project is definitely being set up to be the office secretary... I think she's also being set up to be a possible love interest for Antonio next season. He had some relationship with an escort who was his CI earlier in the season, and now with his family gone, I can see Antonio going after this one.

I'm wondering how things will shakedown with Atwater in Intelligence. I feel like of the two, Burgess got way more development than Atwater, so I'm intrigued to see what he can actually do in the unit and what his character is all about.

Ah, I didn't even catch the possible Antonio/Nadia possible relationship now that his family his the road.

I'm inclined to believe Jin killed himself actually.

Atwater just makes sense in Intelligence. How are 5 white people and a Spanish dude supposed to infiltrate all the gangs and such in Chicago? The fact that there wasn't a black member from the beginning is kind of silly. This ain't Boston PD :p

I don't know about Jin killing himself. The location of the body and type of wound (slit throat) smacks of foul play.

That's why I'm leaning towards a potential 3rd party being involved that could be playing both, maybe even setting them up for blackmail. Voight is a harsh guy but I don't think he'd kill a fellow cop like that and to basically take him out there, then let him go, then kill him and take him back out there wouldn't make a lot of sense for him.

Agreed, it was a 0-100mph thing when it needed to be developed over a few eps and it needed some actual scenes between Antonio and his wife.

I actually thought at first something was going to happen between her and Antonio at the precinct due to his stress with his wife, but I guess that would cloud his stand up guy character. No doubt she'll be his shoulder to cry on next season.

I hope he hasn't just been promoted up to the unit so they'll have someone that can be killed doff next season.

Man needs some comfort in the harsh life of a Chicago cop! :D

I am sure I saw in another show that it's impossible to actually cut your own throat due some reflex action.

Haha! :D They had to kill off the Asian character before they could let him in. :funny: I hope we get to see more of Atwater next season as regards his back story and him proving himself to the unit, I wonder if they'll move him into partnering Alvin as I think that dynamic already showed potential.

It makes sense that they'd bring in another black unit member after getting rid of their other one.

Good start to season 2, looks like Holstead is going to have a big arc to kick things off and I knew Voight would do "the right thing" after talking to Jin's mom, of course I put it in quotations as I knew he'd do it on the understanding he had a get out card up his sleeve, but still, he took a risk that the other guy wouldn't go for it.

Al's little sit down with the mob boss where he told him he was the last of a dying breed that did things the old Chicago way was awesome.

The bit between Antonio and his CI near the end was interesting, like they were maybe setting something in motion.

I'm glad Bunny turned out to be Erin's mom, we've had enough shadowy friends from her past already. The casting was good as well, she had an older likeness of Sophia Bush.

I see me and Charlie were right about Nadia! :D

he got promoted from Uniform.

The actor playing Jin (Archie Kao)....could he be returning to CSI? He was on that show for years before leaving for Chicago PD.

Hey Halstead, when there's a bounty on your head, how 'bout you not go to a crowded bar?

Nah, that's the perfect place to go. More targets to hit between your killer and you.

Great episode this week with a cool oldschool car chase and Alvin going all grizzled Untouchables on the mob boss. :D

It's interesting that Nadia wants to be a cop, I wasn't expecting her to be taken in that direction. It also looks like they are setting something up with Holdtead and the new Paramedic from the sister show, kinda seems pointless though as him and Erin are clearly where things will end up going.

I loved this weeks ep, good to see Attwater take center stage.

Erin in her undercover outfit! :hrt:...That is all.

The receptionist, former hooker whatsername, now that Antonio's marriage is all but over, they'll probably start something between the two of them. She sorta lingered a bit after talking to him in this weeks episode.

Still not sure how I feel about Roman. One week he does something that pisses me off, the next week he's not a complete d-bag.

They dropped a hint that Burgess could be in line for a promotion.

The crossover with Chicago Fire this week was fantastic, there are few actors that do creepy quite like Knepper. I actually thought Antonio was going to pull Gabbi out of the elevator and Voight was going to push Trenton in and he'd go up in flames.

I'm glad they are having Holstead and Erin act like real people instead of simply pressing reset on what is happening with them, it'll be more interesting with them together than faux drama keeping them apart.

Knepper is one of the few actors in Hollywood who should never ever play anyone but a bad guy period. Him, Peter Stormare and Jordi Molla.
