Chris Benoit Dead

You do know wrestling is fake right? Talking about a pro wrestler's "accomplishments" is like crediting an actor with the accomplishments of the character he plays. It's like crediting Harrison Ford with fighting off the Nazi's. it didnt happen, it's all scripted. Unlike OJ Simpson, bag of scum that he is, who actually accomplished his feats in the NFL.

It's also hilarious how some people in this forum act as if they knew Benoit. You didnt know him, you knew his character he played in the WWE. All you know of the guy is a manufactured persona that was made to fit their less than soap opera quality "dramas."

Well put, but half of the fans of 'wrasslin' actually think what they are watching is real. They don't realize that after the 2 guys are done "kicking the crap" out of each other, they go to the locker rooms and have a beer together.

Well if the "looneys" keep commiting acts like these, then thats really not a bad idea. All im saying is there is one less f**k up to worry about in the world. Benoit was a f**k up.

how about getting people help before they go off the deep end and commit acts like these?

= Wrestling is a sport and so is professional wrestling. Only difference is amateur wrestling isn't scripted and professional wrestling is.

A key detail in most sports is that you don't know the outcome before you begin, hence the challenge :o

Considering how many kids watch, it's probably more than half.

erm...pretty much EVERYONE knows wrestling is fake.

An accomplishment in pro wrestling, is just like other sports. This one may be predetermined, but to be recognized as the best in the world, no matter what you do, is an accomplishment.

You act as though, all wrestlers are guys playing dress up, and completely looking past the fact that these guys are all athletes. Lawrence Taylor said himself, that wrestling was a hell of a lot harder than pro football.

Is it legit, no, but that doesn't mean you can look down on the guys that do it, just because, their championships are scripted symbols, rather than actual trophies.

I agree that its a tough activity, but in no way is an accomplishment in wrestling like anything in a real sport.

Bret Hart said it best "Our job is to make what we do look as real as possible without hurting one another."

Bret Hart is a former professional wrestler and has even said that he believes no one should get hurt in the ring, but also feels its necessary to make it look as real and as physical as possible. And you say that after two guys are done kicking each others asses they go in the back and have a beer?

Tell that to Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels, Edge and Matt Hardy, Undertaker and Hulk Hogan, and Savage and Hogan.

Even if he did do it, I will not change my avatar. Chris Benoit is a legend whose legacy has been tainted by a horrendous act, an unforgiveable act. That doesn't mean he wasn't one of the best of all time. I use my avatar to memorialize the man he was, not the man he died as.

He's always been one of my favorites, and I mourn him and his family.

Find peace in the next world, Chris. As my other favorite says: 'Rest In Peace.'
Ditto

Your right, it's not. Never said it was. But, you have to agree, that being the best in the world at something is one hell of an accomplishment.

I didnt say that wrestlers werent athletes, you're putting words in my mouth. I dont look down on them either. I just find it laughable when people talk about their 'accomplishments" as if their athleticism has anything to do with whether they win or lose, when it doesnt.

OJ Simpson won rushing titles in the NFL out of his own skill and determination against all the others in the league. Pro wrestlers win or lose based on a script, and work their way up through tenure and showmanship.

Their accomplishments are more akin to the Emmy Awards than they are to anyt athletic achievement, because athleticism isnt the determining factor on whether they win or lose, even though they are athletes.

As for wrestling being a sport, yes real wrestling is sport. The stuff in the WWE, ECW, etc. is entertainment and a physical soap opera. Sports arent scripted, their very nature dictates that the participants decide the outcome within the rules of the game.

Like i said, i don't discredit the physicality of the spectacle, but other than that, everything is just an act. They are all actors, nothing more, hell most of em are pretty poor actors now that i think about it.

Oh, you're so intelligent Will.
Thanks for noticing.

You think using big words and trying to paint yourself as some uber intelligent poster makes you special?
Nope. I sit at a desk for 8 hours a day and messageboards are more entertaining than Tetris. And you've got a problem with your perception of me.
I don't "try to paint" myself as anything. I say stuff. It's what I want to say.

I'm never going to meet anyone from the Hype in real life and couldn't give less of a **** if you think I'm special or not.
I don't even know who you are.
The things that make me special are within the realm of my life...my personal, real life.

Who says we're honoring his personal life?
Again, you're misunderstanding me. I'm not actually disgusted by a Benoit avatar. I was disgusted by You.....acting all self-righteous and judgemental and being a crybaby toward people who feel differently about it than you do.

I was pointing out that someone who is so "outraged" by levity here, I would think, would also be "outraged" by a ****ing violent ass**** who would tie his own wife up and kill her, and then kill his own offspring.
But you are honoring him, because the fact that he used to play-pretend in his little homosexual sports fantasy dramas and act like a violent muscle-head, making more money than any teacher or cop ever will to get all sweaty and hoist other men up in the air by their crotches, seems to overshadow the possibility that he was a deranged killer. :o

I totally understand what you're saying, about being a huge fan of someone's art/performance/ability...while not endorsing every other aspect of their fallible human nature.
My heroes have done terrible things...not THIS terrible, but still...you don't worship James Brown for how hard he can smack a woman or how many drugs he can abuse. It's for his music and showmanship.

What I was calling stupid was the way you were getting all pissed off at people who might approach bad news differently than you do, OR who may not care. If it's so "horrible" that they might have ZERO personal/emotional attachment to these dead people, and that they might make jokes in a detached way, about a media figure, then I would've thought that trivializing the dude's pure evil by celebrating him with an avatar RIGHT after finding out that he was a cowardly, sadistic nut-bag with no respect for human life...might seem a little like a double standard there.

Are we supposed to ignore Victor Salva?
If you want to have a Victor Salva the Child Molester avatar, knock yourself out.

I stand corrected. You're a hell of a lot smarter, more respectful of the business than 90% of the people on these boards.

Yea thats pretty much the perfect way to put it. I dont think it can be said better than that.

....there are some real *****es on here! :whatever: Thanks for bringing truth and reality to the boards, Wil.

Maybe 15-20 years ago. A large majority of fans understand that professional wrestling is scripted. It's been heavily documented, but incidents such as "The Montreal Screwjob" have broken the facade that was known as "kayfabe." Nowadays, many wrestling fans are "smarks." The internet age has transformed the way professional wrestling operates, as well as how the fans react to the product.

With regards to this tragedy, people are having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that someone they watched on television, someone they believed to be a honest, hardworking, family man and someone they admired is a cold-blooded murderer.

The reality of the situation is, even if people did not know the "real" Chris Benoit, and regardless of who he is and what he does, the tragedy here is the fact that ALL of the people who admired him never would have thought he could be capable of such an act.

And yet, here we are today.

erm...pretty much EVERYONE knows wrestling is fake.
God I hope so!
There aren't people out there walking around free who honestly believe the Undertaker has magical powers to collect souls and whatnot, are there?!

Nice try. I don't condone what Benoit may've done at all. All I'm saying is that I see a lot of morons on these forums making light of the situation. If you're supposedly so disgusted about it, why joke about it? There's nothing funny about it.

I don't care if certain people don't care. However, if they don't have anything to say regarding the tragedy don't say anything at all. I'm guessing none of your parents taught you common sense? I HATE what Jeffrey Dahmer did, I hate what John Wayne Gacy did, and I hate what Ted Bundy did. But I'm not going to mock the dead or make fun of them being dead.

Mocking the dead has a way of coming back on a person and I sincerely hope you and other posters don't find that out the hard way.

I will never, ever have a Victor Salva avatar. All I'm saying is he made some pretty good films despite the fact that he's a convicted child molester. Are we supposed to hate his films because of what he did?

Nice try again.

You mean Hulk Hogan doesn't get charged up from hearing the fans cheer him? :(
