That's nothing. A buddy of mine was telling me about his sister-in-law. She was in a mutually physically abusive relationship. The penultimate showdown was a knife fight between her and her boyfriend that ended up with both in the hospital and with her nearly dying.

They got back together.

At some point after that she finally broke it off with him after he gave her a beatdown that would make the Chris Brown/Rihanna incident look like a couple lovetaps. That's right, lying in the hospital nearly dead with knife wounds wasn't enough to make her think that he might not be "The One".

My mother-in-law was a battered woman. My wife's father beat her quite a lot. He beat her pretty bad, too. Luckily, that bastard died while my wife was a teenager. I love this woman to death, but I just cannot get my head around why she stayed with him. She left him, went back to him. Nothing changed. Only his death made it stop.
