Chris Cornell says he is Casino Royale theme song writer and performer

According to an interview in a Finnish newspaper, singer songwriter Chris Cornell has revealed he has written the theme song to the 21st James Bond film "Casino Royale".

Cornell will also perform the title track. This would make him the first male lead vocalist to perform a 007 song since A-Ha in 1987 for "The Living Daylights".

He was quoted as saying (translated), "I haven´t seen the new Bond fully, because it is still being edited, but I have seen several clips of it. Absolutely amazing movie. Very different than earlier Bonds."

Songs written by Chris Cornell have been featured in several blockbusters such as "Singles", "Collateral Damage", "Great Expectations" and "True Romance". He was a founding member and lead singer of Sound Garden, and as well as a solo career, now heads up rock band Audioslave. His most recent hit is "Be Yourself" (YouTube link).

Thanks to `Nick-Nack` and `The Arkichef` for the alerts

Chris Cornell is anything but meh. Besides, artists who do Bond themes usually aren't that great anyway.

Could be pretty good. He's an interesting choice to say the least.

audioslave sucks. go back to soundgarden.

audioslave is a pretty good band, but soundgarden is better, anyways it dosent matter, Cornell has a really cool sounding voice, not something i would expect for a british spy, more for an "american rugged desert hero" type thing. However since this Bond is about change, its a great choice, besides we need a hard rocking Bond theme, like live and let die (the best bond theme IMO)

Cornell rocks. He's one of the best singer/songwriters in the business today. This news has me even more excited.

This is fantastic news. Chris Cornell is one of the greatest vocalists in rock history.

I hope it will be as good as the scene from Collateral where they used his song "Shadow On The Sun". That scene was chilling.

I love chris cornell and definately won't mind him doing the theme song if that is indeed the case, but I was kinda wishing they went a little old school and gave props to connery's days and had someone like michael buble sing the title song. Just a nestalgic thought.

Michael Buble over Christopher Cornell ?! That's crazy talk !;) :p

This is huge for me.
I love Audioslave. This keeps getting better and better.

See I can accept this response because it recognizes that he was in soundgarden. Now for the other folks that say "the guy from audioslave?" If you dont know the man was in soundgarden well....I'm not going to start an argument.

even if you like soundgarden over audioslave, cornell has one of the best voices in the industry period. and it's been sounding even better lately since he quit smoking the ciggs. i can't wait

Cornell's amazing, can't wait to hear the title song.

I am glad that the title song tradition wasn't dropped for the reboot.

anything is better then madonnas song ewww

i think my fav bond song is the living daylights :)

Cornell has an interview over at MTV about doing it and he comments on how he really digs the film and Craig:

"I wasn't really sure about doing a Bond theme, because I wasn't really a big fan of the last several movies," he said. "And then I heard that there was going to be a new guy — Daniel Craig — who was going to play Bond [see "British Actor Daniel Craig Steps Into James Bond's Tux"]. And he's so different. I have seen him in several movies, and I was kind of intrigued. So I went to Prague, where they were shooting the movie, and they showed me a rough edit of it. I was just completely blown away by it, because it's unlike any Bond film ever, really. [Craig] is an actor's actor, and there's emotional content to [the movie]. He's not like the swaggering, winking sort of super-agent guy. He's like a human being in this movie, and it's going to completely readjust the way people think of the character."
