The Dark Knight Rises Christian Bale Is Reluctantly Committed to Batman 3, With or Without Nolan

Did any of you guys watch Superman Returns? The last thing I want is a film with homages (READ: lazy to come up with novel ideas) to Batman Begins and Dark Knight. Keep Singer away from Batman please.

I completely agree. Singer made a great movie (Usual Suspects) an okay kinda boring movie (Apt Pupil) a pretty decent thriller (Valkryie) a decent comicbook movie (XMen) a great superhero movie (X2) and a remake of Superman from the 1970s (Superman Returns)..... Singer is VERY hit n' miss in my opinion. Superman Returns remains a failure in my eyes... a totally forgettable almost a rehash type Superman film...

Watching Superman Returns is as much fun as watching Superman: Doomsday. Now when you can say that watching a straight to DVD cartoon Superman movie is as much fun as watching the big screen blockbuster live action Superman movie you KNOW you have a problem.

Singer + Batman = no thanks

Wow! I just don't understand all the Bryan Singer hate.

I think people would love it if he stepped in Nolan's absence. And considering his work style...

hmmmm... sorry to have ruffled feathers. I just think he's a great director that would have been a perfect match for Nolanverse.

And I'm sure you believe that everything Shumacher does involves neon and nipples.

I'm sure Nolan will be back. We just have to wait it out, after Inception he will prolly want some money again.

It has said many times he will only return if he thinks that he can make a better movie.

Nolan has hinted that he's come up with a story he thinks he'd like to tell, and we know that WB have told the Writer's Guild that he's working on a script for Batman 3. Now, whether the Nolans and Goyer can come up with a script which will satisfy Chris (as David Goyer has said, the early stages of their Batman projects are him firing suggestions at Chris trying to give him a reason to do them).

Then there's also the fact that Nolan doesn't do business in terms of having to sign on for things, and I'm imagining that WB is being very respectful of that. When Nolan was talking about Heath he hinted at many things which would mean Heath was involved in the project when it was at an early scripting stage. Heath only signed on for the project the day before it was announced, which would mean he'd been involved for many, many months without it being "official". I imagine that Nolan is very much involved in Batman 3 and will attempt to align the project in the same way. He'll wait until the script is done, feel out some casting choices and then sign on.

Huh? Singer's a schizophrenic when it comes to comic book movies. I don't know what he was thinking when he made Superman Returns after the pretty good X-men films. Superman Return's lazy performance means the studio won't let him go independent on Batman translating to lots of studio interference and notes which never leads to an end product with any quality. These factors result in a film similar to a mystery meat product where you have a mish mash of various creative influences and you're left wondering what the heck it was you just saw. I'd rather have a director the studio trusts to do the job than be worried that Singer will give Batman the Superman Returns treatment and become a creative nanny to everything Singer does to the project.

I have faith in Nolan, he'll be back for a 3rd, and with the same writing team. I'm sure we'll get an on par, or greater 3rd Batman flick.

Singer made X2 the best CBM yet made (imo) so he will always have a place as a director BUT his Superman Returns was far to reverent to the original movie instead of trying to remake the franchise (with more empasis on SM struggle to find his place as a good in a mans world) has anyone seen the behind the scenes making of Returns? he worships SMTM so much it permeated every aspect of his movie sometimes a director having a deep love for a movie or character can be a really bad thing.

Singer is an above average director, but he is inconsistent. Id be a little nervous if he helmed the 3rd batman...you never know which Singer is going to show up..

I'd be satisfied with a sequel that was on par with BB, at least I hope I would be.

Being the perfectionist nolan seems to be, i can't see him not returning if he has a great story to tell.

I hope Nolan does come back. I wouldn't be the same having the same cast as the previous films but different director.

They can only go down from TDK.

Im not the films biggest fan but it had everything going for it most importantly the Joker batmans most famous foe and like it or not Ledgers tradgic death before release.

They killed Twoface:cmad::cmad: before he really had time to shine imo (Nolans biggest mistake in the franchise) so the only logical villains left are Catwoman and Riddler both good rogues but not half as interesting as Joker and Twoface.

I disagree completely. Two Face shined beautifully in the Dark Knight and I think his character really fit into the whole Batman world perfectly. I think nolan did it right, he made the movie about harvey and how much he impacted all of gotham. Two-Face was his other half, his downfall. But I still think from a movie telling standpoint, having a man with half his face missing for a small part of a film was a good idea. It made you care about his disfigurement, it didn't make it feel as cartoony as it would have otherwise felt. If you had two face come back in another movie, not only would you have no more story to tell.....I think the general movie goer wouldn't care. I understand the two face lovers out there and don't want to see him limited to one film, but he really helped make the dark knight a true classic. I wouldn't want him in another film, it's time for something we haven't seen. It's time for Nolan to show us something else.

I highly believe Nolan may return if there is a story worth telling. I am not sure how they could top TDK though lol!

Well just like you can't top godfather 2 or Empire Strikes Back. This just seems like another classic second film of a trilogy. But it doesn't mean Nolan can't make a smart and great third film either.

I really think 'The Dark Knight" was probably the best comic book movie we will see for at least a couple decades if not more. It could be the classic that all movies of it's kind are judged for a long time. It will go down as probably the best/biggest action movie of this decade. It's now in a league with Jurassic park, and Terminator 2 of the 90's.... It's on that level of pop culture. That's hard to duplicate, but I don't think Nolan is capable of making a bad movie either.

TDK won't be easy to surpass in terms of storytelling quality, and as nearly everyone has reiterated for the past year, there is no topping the joker when it comes to villains...

It's very likely that TDK is the pinnacle of Nolan's Batman franchise, but as others have said, that doesn't necessarily mean we will be dissappointed with the third installment. Nolan will find a way to tell a great story and make us love it.

TDK can't be topped though.

Im not counting anything out anymore. Like we have said a million times, I thought there was no way that TDK could live up to my enormously high expectations, and it exceeded them. If Nolan comes back, my initial reaction is to say that he cant top TDK, but I wouldnt be surprised if he did..

I believe it's the seventh film in the franchise. I'm not saying that to be a *****e. I'm saying it to illustrate the WB's commitment to the franchise.

With or without. There will be a 7th film.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

I regard the nolan films as a separate 'franchise' from the previous 4.

It's a considerably better film than Jurassic bleeding Park.

Mos' Def.

Hi guys, Just throwing in my 2 cents...

Firstly, I reckon Nolan will be back - I can't imagine him happily handing over 'his' Batman universe to anyone else...

At this stage, I also think the villains are already decided and the basics of the story are already down.... I just can't wait to hear what they are!
