.Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has reached a global cume of $777.2Mthrough today, setting the Universal title firmly on track to cross $800M in the very near future.
So this will be the no.1 R-rated film even without China? Great if so. I’m not sure if Nolan has much a name there. Will soon pass both Deadpools on the top-grossing r-rated list. I wonder if Oppenheimer will get much of a boost from China...
Joker is over $1B.So this will be the no.1 R-rated film even without China? Great if so. I’m not sure if Nolan has much a name there.
This is how it looks as of now for R rated films.

Oh yes of course, thanks.Joker is over $1B.
Shows how well this has done - as you get down to 20th the numbers are so much less. Really rarified company being in the 700s (and counting!) as a R film. This is how it looks as of now for R rated films.

The Hangover was hugely popular, I think at the time Part II's opening weekend was second only to The Matrix Reloaded as far as R rated films go. I'm more surprised to see Troy hanging in there in the top 20. For whatever reason I don't remember that movie doing that well.Okay, I am surprised to see Fifty Shades and The Hangover Part II on that list.
I think other than the popularity of the character worldwide, the fact that American media tried to fearmonger it so much before release backfired tremendously because it just made people more curious to see it. And, shocker, people who saw it didn't develop the urge to become mass shooters.Joker grossing a billion still fascinates me. I can't believe it made that much.
Joaquin’s performance also was a huge factor in word of mouth for people coming to check it out.
So curious how the sequel does with Lady Gaga and it being a musical added to the mix, can it make a billion as well.
I get the appeal but I'm still surprised it passed $700M WW. It's not exactly a fun "I want to go back and see this multiple times" kind of blockbuster like No Way Home, Top Gun: Maverick or Barbie.I think other than the popularity of the character worldwide, the fact that American media tried to fearmonger it so much before release backfired tremendously because it just made people more curious to see it. And, shocker, people who saw it didn't develop the urge to become mass shooters.
I think Gaga's fanbase will account for a good amount of its box office. If it's well received critically a billion is certainly on the table given the response to the first one.Joaquin’s performance also was a huge factor in word of mouth for people coming to check it out.

True. A top Joker acting performance would likely get a lot of people through the door even if they weren’t otherwise tempted to go to the cinema for it.Joaquin’s performance also was a huge factor in word of mouth for people coming to check it out.
