It arrived yesterday and I gave it a rewatch this morning! My god, this may very well be the most gorgeous 4k transfer I've ever seen.
What's the aspect ratio in this?

I can't believe I missed out on the Best Buy steelbook.

It sold out already!?? NOOOOOOOOoooo. Was gonna put that on my Xmas list. Silly me...

Edit: Wow, already seeing listings for $100-200 on Ebay. :deadpan:

Guess there's still that Walmart exclusive...for now.

And I knew I would usually be on it for a Nolan movie coming out on physical media but for some reason I slacked off.

But I at least got the Tenet bestbuy steelbook, that means something right? :o

The level of success this movie has achieved is simply stunning to me. In a world of digital purchasing, you have physical copies of this movie selling on eBay for $100+. Hell, some listings on Amazon for $50. It's crazy. Nolan should be teaching courses.

I cannot make a single argument for this not winning Best Picture and Best Director. Both categories should be open and shut at this point.

Nolan is reminding other studios and filmmakers how to make money in this business. Create a strong/original film with emphasis on seeing it in theaters and no talk of streaming whatsoever, give it a long exclusive theatrical window, hype up the physical home video purchase over digital, make the physical home video purchase a "must have" for fans of the film, etc.

I have to imagine Best Buy didn't order many copies of the Steelbook because they're in the process of showing physical media the door. Fools.

The steelbook I can understand going for those prices since they're a limited run but nobody should be spending more than retail price for the standard 4K/Blu-ray. There are plenty more copies on the way.

As for the Oscars, I'm rooting for this to win Best Picture and Best Director. I think the only film that stands a chance of getting in its way for Best Picture is Killers of the Flower Moon, which is a great film as well. I'm predicting Nolan is the likely winner for Best Director. It's his time.

Supply vs demand. The market determines the price/value. Something in limited supply is worth as much as what someone is willing to pay for it.

Sure, for the steelbook since they're not making more of those. Charging more than $30-$35 for the standard 4K copy that will be restocked in stores over the next couple of weeks is scalping. But scanning through eBay it's rare to see any standard 4K discs listed above that price. $50 is the highest I'm seeing it listed for and nobody's biting on that.

Holy crap even the standard edition sold out!??.

I mean, I know it'll be restocked but that's freaking insane. My wife might have to pull a Jingle all the Way if she wants to make my Xmas merry. :tearsofjoy:

I have to say, as a ginormous Nolan fan for nearly 2 decades now, you love to see it. A lot of folks were very keen to dunk on Nolan for Tenet's release and that whole mess, but this release is a major vindication that his old school values when it comes to both making and putting out movies are just that...very valuable, maybe in 2023 more than ever. He deserves every statue that's coming.

It still happens from time to time if a movie is popular enough, it's just few and far between. I definitely remember No Way Home being sold out on disc in its first week of release last year.

Did stores simply underestimate the strong sales potential and order lower numbers or is it genuinely flying out of stores?

Either way, Nolan better be getting a little gold man in March.

The 4K and Blu-ray are back in stock at Target:

It's because stores like Target, Wal Mart and Best Buy order much fewer copies of Blu-rays/DVDs these days, especially Best Buy since they're doing away with physical media entirely.

I'm willing to bet that the majority of people who bought it are over the age of 35. The younger generation may have seen Oppenheimer and liked it but for the most part they've moved on from physical media in favor of streaming/digital. Barbie, Oppenheimer's release date rival that appealed more to younger viewers and grossed $1B, hasn't had the same supply issues with the Blu-ray.
