It's because stores like Target, Wal Mart and Best Buy order much fewer copies of Blu-rays/DVDs these days, especially Best Buy since they're doing away with physical media entirely.

I'm willing to bet that the majority of people who bought it are over the age of 35. The younger generation may have seen Oppenheimer and liked it but for the most part they've moved on from physical media in favor of streaming/digital. Barbie, Oppenheimer's release date rival that appealed more to younger viewers and grossed $1B, hasn't had the same supply issues with the Blu-ray.

The level of success this movie has achieved is simply stunning to me. In a world of digital purchasing, you have physical copies of this movie selling on eBay for $100+. Hell, some listings on Amazon for $50. It's crazy. Nolan should be teaching courses.

I cannot make a single argument for this not winning Best Picture and Best Director. Both categories should be open and shut at this point.

Best actor is locked. No one stronger than Cillian as of now. Hell, RDJ looking strong in supporting as well and it be deserved.

He's my personal pick for Best Actor, but I can't see him beating Bradley Cooper. Cooper's transformation in Maestro is pure catnip for AMPAS voters. And I could see Giamatti as a dark horse candidate.

There was a time where it looked like Colman Domingo would run away with it, but Rustin has been a complete and total non-factor since its release. Literally nobody is talking about it.

It's funny, I didn't have a good cinema experience with this movie (though that wasn't the movies fault necessarily), but as fan of physical media I am loving this getting sold out.

Sometimes the “outsider” wins over established/Hollywood names. (Marion Cotillard over Blanchett, Christie, Linney and Page comes to mind.) But generally, methinks the “insider” has the advantage. So… Bradley Cooper?

Without having seen the other performances (I did think Giamatti was great in The Holdovers and deserving of a nom though), my feeling is IF Oppenheimer is a big winner overall, it would be kind of a snub for Murphy not to win. IE Keaton's snub for Birdman (which still annoys me to this day). He carries that entire movie and while it's not a 'showy' performance, it's an extremely complex role and he just embodies it fully to the point that I can't imagine anyone else playing it and the movie working as well as it did. Of course it all just depends on the mood the voting members are in and if they're looking to 'spread the wealth' or just shower Oppenheimer with across the board wins.

I just personally feel like if a movie is firing on all cylinders and it's centered heavily on a lead performance, it should be a no-brainer. Especially when it's such a rare 'event' film of this calibre. It's the thing that everything else in the movie is resting on. Whenever I think of the film, the first image that pops in my mind is always Cillian's face.

‘Oppenheimer’ Japan Release Date Confirmed

Christopher Nolan’s 'Oppenheimer' now has an official theatrical release date in Japan

Sometime in 2024. Though by then, it'll already have been available on streaming in Japan... (yes?) So not likely to move the needle much on the movie's world-wide BO total.

And to think I had Oppenheimer pegged to win in this category, especially with Dune Part 2 moved to next year. Quantumania sure as hell won't get nominated but it's insanely stupid that Oppenheimer doesn't even have a shot at it now.

Fun fact, Joaquin Phoenix's awkward sex scenes with Vanessa Kirby were all CGI.

Seems like the majority of films on that list relied heavily on CGI. Thus, “VFX” = CGI…? And since no CGI was used in Oppenheimer, it was deemed ineligible…?

Alternatively, maybe folks thought Nolan employed archival footage of the Trinity test. Or maybe they thought he actually detonated an a-bomb.
