Not too long ago I had to dissect a couple of clams and mussels. Now, I love them, and they're incredibly tasty, but upon my dissection I came to what should have been an amazingly obvious realization:

When you eat those things, you're eating it all: heart, gills, metabolic waste, intestines, clam/mussel/oyster poop, etc. Everything.

Now they're so tasty that even this thought couldn't deter me, but does it bother anybody else? Have you ever thought about it?

They're delicious, they don't make me throw up, so I don't have a problem.

I don't eat anything from the sea besides fish.:csad:

Yes, I only recently thought about it. I made pasta and threw mussels in the sauce and while eating I kept looking a little too closely and saw the EYES! :wow: :csad:
Kept eating it though.
New England Clam Chowder for dinner tonight. :woot:

And, most of that kind of sea food are bottome dwellers, so you eat re-pooped poop. But, there are tasty with a Garlic Butter sauce.

never eaten any of them . . . the consistency scares me . . . and now that you bring up the poop, innards, etc. point I DEF won't be trying them :down

Do you chew them, or just swallow them down?

I'm from the seacoast of New England. I grew up on all kinds of shellfish. Never once thought they were disgusting. I could see someone from the midwest or something thinking the concept of eating a mollusk a little weird...but it was always second nature to me.

Mmmmmm steamers.... *drools*

Not all shellfish are mollusks. :o But I see your point.

which ones aren't? even cephalopods are mollusks... i can't think of any others...
Well, technically, crabs and shrimp are included among the category of, "shellfish." Of the Clams and Mussels, they are indeed mollusks.

I don't like oysters, but I love clams, especially Baked Clams. I had literally about 10 or so this past Christmas. I'm a huge seafood junkie.

I'm not a big seafood fan.

I've never dared to try clams, mussels or oysters :yay:
