Cloak & Dagger Cloak and Dagger General Discussion

They are street level heroes but the darkforce of Cloak brought them into contact with supernatural villains and it was revealed in later stories that their powers were tied to supernatural beings.

There was a retcon with Cloak and Dagger's powers came from the demon D'Spayre who put portions of his soul in the drug D-Lite.

There's your series Big Bad right there, I'd say.

I hope that the show has at least a decent line-up of Marvel villains from the comics to draw on, not just guys that C&D have fought there. Sort of like what Agents of SHIELD does (though I wish more of them would suit up on that show.)

As much as I'm a fan of Cloak and Dagger, it really can be hard to overlook the obvious racist undertones of the concept.

I think it's less racist than you do, obviously. To me, it was always about perceptions. Ty is a good kid who is nervous with a stutter. His friend died because he couldn't speak up to save him. He has darkness inside him but that darkness represents guilt, not being evil (at least, imo). To me, he's about subverting stereotypes while outwardly acknowledging how people perceive those stereotypes.

I think that it's more on the Dagger side that makes some people see it as kind of racist. Like he cannot do that without the White girl's "pure light" or something.

That being said, there are ways around that while still keeping the basics of their origins I think.

Lol, there's a demon called D'Spayre? Please tell me that he's like Violator and has a bunch of brothers named D'Struction, D'Stress, D'Basement and D'Capitation.

Honestly was hoping to get something more like the comics but not too surprised with direction they went to fit rest of programming on freeform.

I think I'll pass on this one (not saying never see it but not going to watch on a weekly basis waiting for each episode).

There's a lot we're not seeing in the teaser, like the pair in full costume, or the antagonist, or the actual details of the plot. Remember we didn't even see Dr. Strange in full costume in his teaser. Of course on the other end, you've got the Netflix shows which have mostly danced around comic-booky attire for the leads, with the exception of DD, and even that took a full season to build up.

The Demon known as D'Spayre was created 20,000 years ago by the Dweller-in-Darkness, using the fear originated from the sinking of Atlantis and Lemuria.[1]
D'Spayre was encountered at the Nexus of All Realities. He captured young sorceress Jennifer Kale and the spirit of her deceased teacher, Dakimh. He tied them both to an arcane tower on the Nexus, trying to use the evil mystic energies of the tower to corrupt his prisoners so that they would use their magic powers to serve D'Spayre. D'Spayre had killed Dakimh's mentor Zhered-Na centuries ago.[2]

However, Spider-Man and the Man-Thing fought D'Spayre. Although D'Spayre used his powers to overcome Spider-Man with fear, Spider-Man managed to knock out D'Spayre. Kale and Damikh were freed soon afterwards.[2]

Since then, D'Spayre has recurred to more subtle plans. He decided he did not know enough about Earthlings, specially superhumans. He appears to lonely victims using his powers to make them despair; one of these victims was Jock Forrester, father of Aleytys "Lee" Forrester, who would later be a partner of Cyclops and later of Magneto.[3]

D'Spayre urged his fellow Fear Lords to attack Earth in an attempt to gain power, but they were unsuccessful.[4]

Spite, his sister, sought to depose him by using the Juggernaut[5]
D'Spayre was one of the rulers called by Magik to discuss the threat of the Archenemy.

it's as Jordacar said and say they do have the costume's made they aren't gonna spoil at the jump with their first trailer. Yo most peep's these days have for gotten what patience is and it's not a good thing .

They will get to the costtume's when they feel a they are ready. It seems they sort therewith cloak some already first stage wise any way

I can see Cloak in his attire. It's literally just a cape.
Dagger more than likely will just be sporting an all-white shirt-pants combo.
Not like she's going to fight crime in her ballet leotard.

who know where they will go with that. but we'll see. hopefully they find designer that make her suit protected regardless.

She is shown dancing in the trailer (in flashback), so they'll probably tease us by showing her white onesie somewhere in there, even if she doesn't fight crime with it.

oh that's one obvious and I'm sure she would prefer that since it'll allow her to have mobility for bit.

but I'm saying later on if ever try make definitive look. I 'm sure we'll see the dagger crest and hopefully it's more protective . cause we all know it'll be to easy for to be stabbed or shot with the ballerina onesie cool design or not. so hopefully they run into a tech designer that does suits and give them place to stay . anyway we'll see

I hope they do have definitive looks on the show, something for the cosplayers to have fun with. I was thinking for Tandy some kind of crest over her chest that lights up. Same for her monocle thing. That'd look cool.

Cosplayer (had look up that term) date night? :whatever:

Well he's right that the Netflix shows took their time getting to the costume and this is a TV show after all unlike Dr. Strange where we kind of knew all along there'd be some semblance of the comic character there to some degree with of course some liking it more than others.

I'm just thinking it's more than the costume I didn't care for. The trailer actually looked pretty good as a teen angsty drama but the whole crime fighting element thrown in seemed a bit off kilter for me. The tonality just really not up my alley I suppose. Like I said, I'll probably check it out at some point (will watch another trailer) but just doesn't seem that good to me at the moment nor really good at seeming like a good carryover from the source material.

the I look at it'll be these two being pulled into the world of crime . they arejust trying to get by. but are dragged in and they get their powers via these events. I don't think they want to fight crime(initially not yet) it's more like they trying to survive. not that different from the source minus a few add on's to make it contemporary . we'll seen what happens. .

Yeah, perhaps this show will serve the comics version of Cloak and Dagger similar to how Smallville served the superman source material or perhaps it'll transcend generations similar to how Lois and Clarke did (had a grandma who liked the show I believe as all that needed was to say hey it's superman in a romantic family freindly drama! even if not ever really heard of comics ever before).

I'll keep an open mind but this seems geared towards a younger crowd isn't a surprise but I suppose we'll see as you say.

It is worth keeping in mind that the trailer is just for the pilot episode. They have not filmed the whole first season yet so any costumes, potential major villains, elements from the comics and over arching storylines is still be seen.

Perhaps we might get some more information at Comic Con in July.

Some freeform shows get their whole season released online like the Netflix shows do. I don't think Marvel will do it with this show.

They should go with this one

This is the MCU. The costumes will be as understated as they can get away with.

How can it be renewed already? It hasn't even aired the first season yet. They don't know how well it will do.

I think that's just some reporter not knowing that only the pilot was shot and that the first season will film till October.
