A lot of people stated in recent posts how they got the last or close to the last tickets for their location. Then it came to me, how close did some people come to missing or getting a prize?
When the Cake trail was announced, I showed up to the bakery here in SF only to have been told that someone walked off with the cake for Robin Banks less than five minutes ago!
When the Dentmobiles stopped here in our fair city, I was with a group of friends who were also comic book fans. I blame them for everything.
We could've caught the rally in Union Square, a location we were quite close to but my friends really wanted to see the ending for the video game Shadow of the Colossus. The ordeal ran for over an hour. (If you thought Return of the King had too many endings you haven't played SOTC) Eventually we lost track of time and finally decided to leave at the last moment to catch them at the Haight/Ashbury. Even though they all lived in the city for almost their entire lives we caught a bus going the wrong direction. I objected and tried to correct those fools but they would have none of it.
"The 21 goes to the Haight! Come on Steven, you rode it all the time to school," said the naysayers.
Only until we were closing in on the Ferry Building did my confused companions realize I was right all along. To those unfamiliar with our city by the bay, the ferry building is at the other end of town. We quickly reorganized and caught a light-rail before running the final stretch. Despite the running, despite the fact that our watches claimed the campaign crew would be around another nine minutes...it was too late. Witnesses told us they left a few minutes back. One of them asked, "Who is Harvey Dent anyway?" a final blow upon our defeated souls.
