The Dark Knight Close Calls and Missing By a Hair

A lot of people stated in recent posts how they got the last or close to the last tickets for their location. Then it came to me, how close did some people come to missing or getting a prize?

When the Cake trail was announced, I showed up to the bakery here in SF only to have been told that someone walked off with the cake for Robin Banks less than five minutes ago!

When the Dentmobiles stopped here in our fair city, I was with a group of friends who were also comic book fans. I blame them for everything.

We could've caught the rally in Union Square, a location we were quite close to but my friends really wanted to see the ending for the video game Shadow of the Colossus. The ordeal ran for over an hour. (If you thought Return of the King had too many endings you haven't played SOTC) Eventually we lost track of time and finally decided to leave at the last moment to catch them at the Haight/Ashbury. Even though they all lived in the city for almost their entire lives we caught a bus going the wrong direction. I objected and tried to correct those fools but they would have none of it.

"The 21 goes to the Haight! Come on Steven, you rode it all the time to school," said the naysayers.

Only until we were closing in on the Ferry Building did my confused companions realize I was right all along. To those unfamiliar with our city by the bay, the ferry building is at the other end of town. We quickly reorganized and caught a light-rail before running the final stretch. Despite the running, despite the fact that our watches claimed the campaign crew would be around another nine minutes...it was too late. Witnesses told us they left a few minutes back. One of them asked, "Who is Harvey Dent anyway?" a final blow upon our defeated souls.

Well, the last ticket we got for a friend was #134 out of #136.

And for Operation Slipknot, I got the very last package available: Wayne Breton.

I feel your pain with the cake thing. I showed up to the Joker bowling ball 5 minutes too late.

For the cake thing, I was there minutes when Vlkrs got it in Chicago. At the time he was being a jerk [I understood why] but that's cause I hesitated. If I didn't I would be the first.

For the ticket, I went on their and it said sold out. I had a hunch it wasn't so I stayed on and kept refreshing it. After half and hour it finally opened up and got it. I was I think 128 of 132.

Close call by all.

I just barely missed the Salt Lake bowling ball, I kept missing out on the Operation Slipknot packages, I had to hit on the pimply faced girl manager at Dominoes until I knew she was going to call me as soon as the FedEx package came with my mask, then I Waited three long days until I got me CFB package. I got number 2 of 227 on the movie tickets. All the stress was worth it, this whole experience has been a blast.

Thanks 42e.

My luck with the virals have been very fortunate. I never participated in a single of the physical hunts (none were every in FL) except the Dentmobile. Despite the lack of events in FL, I was able to get every single piece of swag so far. Just knowing the right people and making the right deals...Operation Slipknot was devastating.

all i got was the imax ticket last night, well worth it for not getting any other swag

it makes up for it A LOT, im part of history now

Yes all of the chaotic times we have had here has definitely paid off.

I think it was like that for all of us. I dont even remember how many times I called that number over and over again.

I do know that my phone bill went up that month.

I met the girl who got the SF cake phone. She was across the street at work and a friend had her walk over and pick it up. She had no idea what was going on, but she was really nice and very excited when I told her about it. Anyway, I don't care who got it, what I'm most curious about is the location the cake was at. That adult bakery to this day makes me laugh. I never expected to spend my afternoon discussing Batman while surrounded by inappropriately shaped bread.

Haha, my phone bill went up and all three cell phones I called from died. Such a travesty. It was fun though.

I will never forget that we crashed the phone service so many times. Man that was funny.

Also remember how many times we crashed the site. Good times...

Does this count as a close call?

Wow, you are one lucky son of a *****. Too close!

You must of been one of the happiest guy in the world. That is extremely lucky

I got off the net about a half hour before the email went out!!! Damn!!

If anyone has an extra ticket available for the Woodridge IL show and wants to sit with Sgt. Andy Spellman (me LOL! ) of the GCPD, please let me know! Pm me or email me at

I really dont have any swag available but I may have an extra crew shirt I got on set available. I'll have to look for it. I'm inbetween places right now and most of my stuff is in storage. Or I maybe able to get a MM Joker from someone I know.

My ticket wasn't close (#20), but since San Diego (for some reason) was slow on the uptake, I was able to get tickets for 3 of my closest friends. Now, they basically owe me their first born for this one!!

ROFLMAO! That's priceless!!! It was at an adult bakery??

They also do a lot of other stuff, but it's quite lovely in there. They take it to the limit of baked art and it's like an art gallery. I've passed by that place so many times but only stepped in that day.

Well does finding out that there was an awesome Joker event at comic con the night of the day it happened count? (Being at Comic Con)

I was 40 minutes away from a bowling ball. Suspicious though, as someone must have jumped the gun and anticipated the bowling alley and picked it up before I got there. They had to have picked it up within minutes of the locker code release or whatever it was.

I was #131/132 for Woodridge, IL. I sent the link to two of my friends. They were less than 30 seconds behind me, but by then it had sold out. -whew-

Reading about close calls is fun if it eventually panned out for the person, but a lot of the stories are kind of sad. I got the Seattle cake phone fair and square with a great story to tell. Other people on other phone virals had to deal with cheating and that sucks. That can be enough to turn people off the virals for good. I consider myself one of the fortunate ones.
