The Dark Knight The League of Assassins calls for calm

So, in being sarcastic, are you implying that you hate the sound of children laughing? Or just children? Or maybe even laughing? If it is the latter, you have no right to call yourself a "Joker" fan. I'm ashamed of you.

Get him Cristo, get him! Now hit him with the "mega" sarcasto-beam. Only through THIS can we maintain our haven.

All of the above and none of the same.

And rememeber the Joker's "laughing" is a really about the Joke that life is and not really funny which is why he delivers the "punchline" to his victims. So he really loves to not laugh to himself but loves the laughing of others knowing the joke. Just like me.

And I'm a Batman fan not a Joker fan. I get no better joy than when BAtman beat the snot out of the Joker.

Well said. And this is key really. For all the hubbub about the Jokers look, in the end, Bats should be the one we like to look at. He's the hero. He's the star. Joker is a pathetic punk who needs to clean up his act.

POW! Got him...AND I got him using the New Joker.

Now, try to reverse the affects of my "mega" sarcasto-beam!!!

I should like this thread to be a forum for reflection and reconciliation.

We are all Batfans.

Much more unites than divides us. We all have, or had, high hopes and expectations for the translation of our literary idols on to screen. All but a few of us liked Batman Begins. All but the most hasty and bitter retain respect and admiration for mssrs Nolan and Nolan as creative talents.

The resentment and division that has recently encroached onto these pages is a product of our shared passion and enthusiasm. Those who remain hopeful and optimistic have earned the envy of those who do not. They have an enthusiasm that is fueled rather than dampened by surprise and reinvention in their field or interest. Those of us who express our disappointment do so as fatalist devotees of stories and imaginery people who we feel have been our own since childhood. We too deserve respect.

It is discourteous and wrong for those of us who face disappointment to endeavour to spoil the mood of those who don't. We have no right to patronise them. If we do indeed know and love the literature more than the movies, then that should be a source of consolation for us, rather than a weapon with which to assualt those who do not. We should not do ourselves the disservice of mounting a Blitzkreig on these films and their makers, who deserve the respect that we have offered them for so long.

It is an equivalent shame that some who are satisfied with the metamorphosis of one of our favorite characters have sought to berate and ridicule others for their doubts and conservatism. This smacks of triumphalism; a most unattractive trait. It should be uncontroversially aknowledged that the reinvention of The Joker's aesthetics is just that- a reinvention. This is not in itself an indictment of the Nolans' creative choices, but some of us can be offended when we are erronously lectured on the literary heritage of the characters that we love.

We should all accept that "outlook" is subjective, and personal. Lively discourse is what draws us all to this boards, but our opinions should not be polarised, nor should we become factionalised.

De gustibus nil disputandum est.

I have found myself at the throats of those whom I have long respected, and admired. That cannot be healthy. To that end, I am going to avoid the use of the following terms altogether. I hope you will join me.

Excellent post Reg:up:,there can be debate without insults IMO

I have to bring this up, considering the thread. But isn't flaming, like what has been going on, a bannable offense?

I haven't read the agreement in quite sometime, and I am not suggesting that Hunter go on a killing spree.

Just wanted to know.

It depends on the nature of the flaming and the extent of it,in this instance it is an individual mod choice and personally if i went all out this forum would have it's number cut in half.

Right now i say we have all got our various anger off our chest, some have gone to far and gotten banned, others have pushed it and been warned but on a whole given the circumstances i see that things need to be dealt with in a fashion that allows some leway for emotions.

Hunter, man, sorry. I wasn't questioning your authority or work ethic on the boards.

And I agree, banning on a first offense would cut this place in half.

I just couldn't remember the rule of flamming. Sure, people deserve a second chance. I mean, this IS the Batman boards. ;)

More like a 22nd chance...

I forgot what flaming is. I forgot to read the rules on my way in.

^^"Catnip" Cristo. Dude go into the hype lounge and just spout inane junk until you get to 300 posts. Then you get an icon! Weeeee

This reminds me of all the crying over Venom's look...boo hoo he doesn't have raised webs in the comics, boo hoo he's too small...would you rather have the look without the character or the character without the classic look? To have both would be great, but sometimes a change is necessary. Perhaps Nolan will discuss his reasons later on after the movie comes out.

Great thread.

Since we's friends, can I post naked boobie on the hotties thread? :D

As for the avatar, I'm still looking for the pics I want. However, I might change my mind all together and have a Bella avatar.

:(

I think she'd kill me.

I'll get back to you, man. Thx.

Bumpasaurus.

I've just been reminded of this year-old post from someone, and I thought it would be a marvelous idea to bump it up due to the recent bickering in various threads. It really is an intelligent and poignant thread that I had completely forgotten about, and its blatantly obvious that I'm not alone in that memory lapse.

Good post and I agree. As I always have respect for both the comics, *which I was raised on* as well as I admire Nolan's work a great deal as well. And it is all subjective.

But good post regwec.

bumping this because someone needs to reread it.

I think what we need...... is the trailer. With the last trailer, it was something magical. Like....all of us stopped the bickering, and just came together as Batfans. Even regwec allowed himself to geek out. I think when we get something big like that, it exposes the small differences in opinion as just that. Small differences. Ultimately, we're on the same boat of wanting "The Dark Knight" to be a great film. And I'm certainly confident it should be.

The irony is suffocating.

You're absolutely correct. However, it would sure be nice if we all could keep regwec's post in mind all the time because trailers don't come around every day, but bickering sure does. We need less fickle stimuli than trailers to quell the ornery peanut gallery.

I think one of my favorite moments on the board as a community was when TDK trailer was released and there was this kind of unity for a moment when nobody disagreed and just was happy.

Oh well.

The human race disagrees, not just Batfans. I guess if we all said:

Poster1 "I think this new Joker look is a brilliant idea."
Poster2 "Quite."
Poster1 "Indeed."
Poster3 "I believe Nolan should bring back Mr. Freeze in movie 3."
Poster1 "A smashing idea!"

It would get pretty boring. However, the flames do need to stop.

The irony is suffocating.

ironic because the author does not heed his own words or because it applies to me? i didnt write it. if a wrote a post and then proceeded to ignore my own words it would be ironic. this is not the case here.:oldrazz:
