Last weekend, I went with a few people from my church to a special worship music conference in Chicago (I had never been there before). While the conference satisfied my spiritual side, as I had hoped it would, what we saw of the rest of the city ended up surprisingly satisfying my fanboy side!
While there, we took the bus tour of the city twice. Over these tours, we came across several sites used in 'The Dark Knight,' and I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of them appeared in 'Rises.'
While touring the Financial District, we saw several buildings that were used for outer esablishing shots of Gotham (i.e. the exteriors of the Wayne Enterprises building and the loft where Bruce was staying).
We also saw from a distance the tunnel where the whole police van/ tuck hijacked by Joker/ Batmobile chase scene occurred.
However, the piece de resistance was what I saw my first day. My group was at the pier, having lunch at an outdoor balcony restaurant. As our meal was nearing its end, we heard the sound of a loud engine revving repeatedly. We were annoyed by this at first, thinking it was just some jerk on a Harley trying to act cool. However, when we followed the noise, we saw what its true source was: The Batmobile (aka the Tumbler) and the Bat- Bike (aka the Bat- Pod) from the 'Dark Knight' trilogy were on display there, as part of a nationwide tour to coincide with the release of 'Rises'! I and another member of my group had our pictures taken next to the Batmobile, and my picture is now on my facebook, I may make it my profile pic!
Definitely one of the highlights of the trip!
