At 9pm this Wed. Hosted by Anderson Cooper. The first ever LP Townhall in June or early July, did a bit over 900K viewers.
You know, I usually roll my eyes at a third party candidate, but Johnson may really influence this election.
You know, if the Libertarian Party had any desire to be taken seriously, they would flip the ticket. This year provides such a great opportunity for the Libertarian Party. Never before, in modern politics, has there been a major party nominee who is so out of touch with the values of both the Party and America as a whole. The LP could easily put up Perot numbers in this election and maybe win a state or two. But instead of actually going for that, they have Gary Johnson, a guy who was a contractor prior to becoming the governor of a small irrelevant state, going on 60 Minutes, wearing a Hawaiian shirt, talking about how he promises not to smoke weed in the White House. Do they think this is how you get your party taken seriously?
Meanwhile, Bill Weld was a from United States Attorney turned successful governor of one of the largest, most populated states in the Union that also serves as an economic hub...and he is playing second fiddle.
If the ticket were flipped, I'd be a lot more interested in the Libertarian Party this election. But as it stands, Gary Johnson is going to keep it as a fringe party, because he presents the image of a fringe candidate.
No way on God's green earth would Weld be on top of ticket. He had no desire to be even VP til Gary asked. Gary got nomination on second ballot cause of Weld. Weld got his on second nomination.
New York may not even get Johnson and Weld on ballot as LP. Cause Weld pissed off the LP in NY back in 06. Ran as Gov as GOP AND LP..when he lost nom for GOP...he broke promise with LP. Last i read NY wasnte even trying to get them on LP ballot.
Then it goes to show how petty and silly the LP is. They would never win NY to begin with. They could win some smaller, more conservative states if they spent their money properly with Weld on top of the ticket. But no one is going to take them seriously with a guy like Johnson, treating the campaign like Spring Break up top.
Johnson may have brilliant ideas and a great platform (he doesn't, but let's say he does in arguendo). But it doesn't mean a damn thing when no one takes you seriously because you somehow find a way to present yourself in a manner that is even more childish than Donald Trump.
Well, that's not fair. Trump acts like an insolent, entitled child. Johnson acts like a burnout teenager who is running for prom king rather than the position that holds our nuclear codes.
If the Libertarian Party wishes to be taken seriously, they should've nominated a candidate who could be taken seriously. That's Bill Weld. But they didn't. And so they will miss the best opportunity they will have for years to come.
