Columbia picks up the rights to make PREACHER!!

I'm a huge fan of the Preacher graphic novels. I have every single one of them and I'm just not sure one film is going to be enough. Unless they plan on making 10 or 11 of them they should just stick with an HBO mini series.

I will say one storyline I REALLY want to see on the big screen is when Jesse returns to Angelville to confront his grandmother and Jody. That had to be some of the most graphic, epic, emotional, tense, and insane material I have ever read. It was so well written and you felt for Jesse, Tulip, and you absolutely hated his grandmother and Jody with a passion.

Also seeing the Saint of Killer's origin on the big screen is ideal too.

Hell there's so many things that deserved to be on the big screen with the Preacher it's not even funny. My fear is they'll water down the material to avoid controversy with various religious groups though. :csad:

I'm a huge Preacher fan, and I just don't see this ever doing the book any real justice. On a side note, I'd actually like to see Jeremy Sisto take the lead if he could handle the Southern accent.

Of course it's not doing any justice to the book.. one movie, or several. But, at least they're gonna try (woah, that sounds..like..hope?)

I think Timothy Olyphant could make a great Jesse Custer.
Nah. He's too stiff.
His most famous roles were notably stiff characters. I mean, between Seth "Stick of Justice" Bullock in Deadwood, Hitman and the sociopath villain in Live free or Die Hard, I can certainly understand your opinion. However, I'd give him the benefit of a doubt. I'm sure he has range beyond staring people angrily and talking through his teeth:http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=zIWOsu8ipB4

not sure he would do it but if they want a big name daniel day lewis would be cool he has that johnny depp aging where he always looks young lol but director may interest lewis :

I think everyone here has a dream/part for Daniel Day-Lewis

i been thinking Elizabeth Banks would make a pretty good tulip and tim roth as cassidy could work

He gets a bad rap for not getting many good American roles, but after seeing the likes of In Bruges and Intermissions I wouldnt mind Colin Farrell as Cassidy

Elizabeth Banks is the flavor-of-the-month and if the opening weekend of Zach and Miri... is any indication, she'll be forgotten in the next few months.

Besides, Mendes' wife (Kate Winslet) would be a better Tulip.

I think one of the main issues I'm concerned about is the controversy surrounding the graphic novel. I fear that the studios and religious people in general will put up a HUGE fuss over the content of the stories.

If they put up such a big stink over The Da Vinci Code, can you imagine the uproar when they see what Preacher is all about?

I remember along time ago someone suggested Skeet Ulrich for Jesse. But I've always wondered who could play Saint of Killers? I had Ed Harris in my head as far as that character is concerned. But Jesse, Cassidy, and Herr Starr would be pretty tough to cast. But we'll see.

kate is an Oscar actress anyone else feel mendes is a bit too classy for this material not one of his movies i don't think even had blood lol or violence maybe i will be surprised but i feel mendes doing this is like Joe Wright doing The boys lol

I always thought of Cassidy when I watched Sean Patrick Flannery in Boondock Saints, but Jesse and Herr Starr are going to be REALLY hard to cast. I just don't see this going anywhere, and I really hope it doesn't.

LOL, Banks is hardly a flavor of the month. Shes had steady work for the last 3 years and one bad opening weekend on one of the more infamous bad box office weekends.

I think everyone understands whats happening. Best possible outcome is the content will be considered completely underwhelming and no time will be given to it considering Preacher is a cult comic series made by an indie filmmaker and Da Vinci Code was made by high profile people (Mendes is talented but not exactly well known) and based on a juggernaut of a book.

Despite age, I am completely sold on Walton goggins as JEsse

Its tougher to narrow down Cassidy. I think Cillian Murphy and Tim Roth have both been good suggestions, but I like the idea of Colin Farell. Guy gets no good roles in US but between In Bruges and INtermission, he can definitely play a likeable, charismatic scumbag.

My favorites for the role of Saint is Tommy Lee Jones or David Carradine

For Herr Starr, Karel Roden.

but now that i think about it kate would be great for tulip it just doesn't seem like her kind of movie i think a trilogy of film can tell the story hell look at bourne series they are even doing a 4th movie on that series

Holy crap, I didn't think about Tommy Lee Jones or David Carradine. Those are pretty good choices. But they would have to bulk up though. It's absolutely necessary since Saint of Killers is cold, intimidating, and has to look like he'd scare the **** out of you if you ran into him.

Plus if they show his journey and his "torture" from Satan he'd have to bulk up.

Tim Roth would have been the perfect #1 ideal Cass a few years back.

Methinks he may be a little too old to play an ageless vampire, now :( :( :(

Roth was one of the candidates for the role years back, as was Robert Carlyle.
Now they're both too old.

I don't want Colin Farrell. Everyone's gonna say Colin Farrell.
