Columbia Pictures Options The Green Hornet

"Ugh He's not right for the roll"
Big Fukking deal.
This is not Batman or Star Wars.
Most of you have never even seen/read The Green Hornet and you have no emotional investment in the character or his mythology so stop *****ing for the sake of *****ing.

No franchise should have or need to be Batman level to get treated with respect in Hollywood.

The adaptions which are tend to do very well if you haven't noticed.

Blade, Iron Man, Sin City, V For Vendetta and Hellboy ring a bell?

Everyone is a possible fan. It's up to Hollywood to convince you to be emotionally invested in GR's mythology. Done well Hollywood could make millions instant GR fans over night without making it a comedy but instead the guy they hired to write and be the lead isn't versatile enough to make a good serious GR movie work. That's the studio and Rogen's fault not GR's.

those of us who like pulp comics, and loved the show feel like we have been cheated. Its valid, and just because you think superbad was funny and Rogen is a "brilliant" comedy writer does not give you the right to look down your noses at us because we don't like the casting.

i saw knocked up recently & yes, while he is still chunky, i was surprised. I mean he wasn't that fat really, JUST CHUBBY

maybe he can pull off the physical aspects of it....

let's hope so

what i like about this fanfilm is that GH is shown to be a very competent fighter

GH really needs to be a badass in his own way in this flick...he cant take a backseat to kato

I love that Green Hornet fan film [and I still doubt Rogen could deliver a movie that could equal it's presentation of the Green Hornet].

I agree with you about the fan film showing the GH to be a skilled fighter in his own right.

I've not been able to listen to as much as the radio series as I'd like but I've always had the impression that Reid could stand his ground in a fight - the TV series shifted most of the the fight action to Kato unfortunately. It's much more interesting seeing GH and Kato fight side by side.

Never been a huge fan of GR but this has made me seriously wanting to see a great GR film. Instead we'll be given a parody.

I don’t think Rogen was ever concerned about making a good serious GR movie. He probably wants in on the successful super-hero film bandwagon and GR was the perfect vehicle for him to do it with. GR’s low profile enough that he can do almost anything with and people will either think GR’s always meant to be like it. The 60’s tv show’s campiness gives him an excuse to make it a comedy.

I’m sure even he knows he’d suck as a serious GR so he’ll fall back on comedy since he clearly still wants to do it and it’s the one talent he has which has worked in his career not being a serious action star. That would require much more work and it’s much harder to accomplish.

The brand is recognizable to the public which makes it an easier sell then a super-hero he can create just for the movie, which he should have done any way.

It actually makes him look like a jerk to GR fans, but since they’re in the minority and he’s a hot commodity in Hollywood now I guess he figures it doesn't matter.

Rogen’s film is really a no win situation for GR fans. If it’s a success the public will see it as more of a joke then the 60’s show was and Hollywood will keep it a comedy since it makes them money.

If it fails it’ll be a decade or more until the property can be touched again by anybody who actually wants to make a serious GR movie.

Wasn't Kato the best fighter due to Bruce Lee's involvement? Any Hollywood actor playing GR could never come close to matching him fighting skill on screen back then.

Since that version is the more known to pop culture people have never given a second thought that GR should be equal to Kato as a fighter. The show being campy doesn't help it being taken seriously, either.

Someone needs to give this franchise a Begins treatment IMO.

not going to happen.

I know.

it looks like its getting the Elektra treatment.

I'd compare this with Batman & Robin not Elektra. Those people actually did try to get Elektra as close to the comics as possible. Rogen just wants to make a super-hero comedy with the Green Hornet brand.

Why do you all insist on using GR as an abreviation for Green Hornet?

I guess the R in the beginning of "Hornet" is silent or something.
I agree that he will probably fail and this movie will be lame, but does this character really deserve the level of respect you speak of? This movie shouldn't really be made but in all honesty, when it hits theaters it's going to be Rogen that draws in the crowds, not a forgotten character from yesteryear that hasn't stood the test of time.

Sorry, meant H.

With that logic Blade, X-men, V for Vendetta, 300, Men in Black, Iron Man, Hellboy didn't deserve respect either.

Yet when they did get it their movies did amazingly well.

Rogen will be the only draw because he's not interested in giving a serious version of GH good enough for the audience to draw them in on its concept.

Uh...any of these characters can stand the test of time...it only depends on how much work creators put into it. The concept of a crimefighter pretending to be a criminal is a concept thats yet to be seen or expanded on in a comic movie. The TV show and radio show has a cult following, moreso than blade when his flick was in development.

this is my theory:

I think the Green Hornet is a response to Miller's Spirit. that's why it's being 'fast tracked'.

did rogen say he wasn't making a serious hornet, or are you just thinking that because of his body of work & his personality ????????

maybe so, but he has implied that it is first & foremost an action film... i can't believe i'm defending him here because it won't carry the tone of the radio show, but it sounds like it could be a good premise...

i have always thought that the tv show was sillier than the notion of a fat guy protrayng a superhero... i mean they actually had episodes where old men posed as aliens & i mean IT WAS JUST CAMP

the 40's version was a much more realistic much more crime based character

let's hope Rogen will find a god mix between the two

I remember reading an article in another Green Hornet thread here where he compared his GH to Batman and Robin.
