Hi all. Just wondering if anyone could provide me info on comic stores in the Des Moines metro area. My family and I are moving there in a couple weeks and need to find a new retail outlet. I've run a search and found 4 different stores in the area. Checked out their web sites, etc, etc. Have not personally visited any of them, yet. Will be fun to do so, of coarse, but was wondering if anyone here had any personal info to share on prefference, quality...any recommendations? Feel free to contact me here or write personally to message box. Thanks.

If you can't find a store, www.dreamlandcomics.com lets you subscribe to get comics shipped to your house (the limit for a subscription is 5, but you can always fill out seperate orders). They're based in Illinois, which isn't too far from Iowa. Atleast closer than Midtown Comics in NYC.

The one I go to is Dragon Fire Comics. It's pretty decent, but don't always have the issues I'm looking for. The other one, Mayhem Comics, is about twice the size and has a much larger selection.

That sounds rather foreboding! But, hey, Brandon, whoever ya are, clue me in.

Interestingly enough, he and his parents go to the same church we will be attending, so I may get to meet the new Superman sometime if he comes back for the holidays. Didn't even grasp the obvious that this Brandon was the reference to the movie star. LOL

Thanks, Tom. Dragonfire uses a pull list for clients from the Diamond solicitations...correct? So, is it still a problem getting more obscure stuff like Cal McDonald mysteries, Doc Frankenstein (etc, etc)? I like what I saw from their website. Mayhem looked the best from the 4 I scoped out but was also the most pain in the ass drive to get to from what I checked out (online). Still, its better than the 90 minute once a month at the most drive I am used to dealing with.

I'm not able to go to Des Moines too often, so I don't use pull lists, but yeah, I'm pretty sure that they use them. If your looking for obscure stuff, odds are you should be going to Mayhem, the only reason I don't go there is because I like the environment of Dragon Fire better.
