Besides STM and B89, which comic films usually tend to be remembered in pop culture?

Spider-Man.

That's all I can think of. When SM1 came out, although it wasn't as big an impact as STM or B89, it still had a major impact and buzz about it.

I'd say that was the closest we got so far.

Ask any male between the ages of 15 and 25 and they'll say 300.

I agree. There may possibly be films that are better, but each one of those is the defining superhero movie of it's respective generation.
For something else to be added to that high of staure, we are going to have to wait another 10 years or so for the superhero thing to fade, and then come back again.

Sin City and 300 are great films, but I'm pretty sure he was asking about the "Batmania" craze before B89 and the "Supesmania" craze before STM. In that case, the only recent superhero film who has got close to that is Spider-Man and it's "Spideymania" craze.

Look at the behind the scenes for B89 and Supes, LOTS of merchandise, LOTS of marketing, LOTS of people lining up more than half way outside of their theaters. The closes that got that is SM.

And personally, I believe, that if Transformers play their cards right they could be added to that list. I know that they have the largest merchandising campaign list I've seen for a film, if their film promotion follows suit- they could really start something.

I honestly feel Catwoman will be remembered favorably for its impact upon the world of fashion... people will enjoy it in the future given the direction our society is going in

I believe most people will/should remember X-Men as putting comic films back on the map and giving them some degree of credibility again after '97s Batman and Robin. X-Men paved the way for the likes of Spider-Man and Batman Begins imo.

Since batman/superman are pretty much mainstays in pop culture. I guess will go with spiderman for now. I just think sin city/300 are flash in the pan comic movies. Sin City has/had a chance, but it seems Sin City 2 is dead in the water right now.

Sin City - no.
300 - no.

Spider-Man is probably the biggest comic pop culture these days. Moreso than probably Superman & Batman.

For heaven's sakes, the city of NY had Spider-Man week. The marketing for the three movies alone was probably enough to finance 300 independent films.

I wasn't around for TSM explosion in the 70's but I remember the '89 Batman craze like it was yesterday and while Spider-Man didn't go balls out as crazy, it's the best pop culture icon from comics that has been translated into movies within the last 10-15 years.

Plus the upside down kiss scene is probably one of the most iconic movie shots from the last few years.

Sin City and 300 are jokes.

Before X-Men there was Blade 1998, I knew Blade was a comicbook hero although many mainstream people did not. That does not disclude the fact that it was a classic. Not taking anything away from Marvel but is it just me or do they kinda get lost in translation making the 3rd part of their movies...Blade Trinity, X-Men III, and Spider-Man 3

Currently, I think Spider-Man is having his time to shine like Superman and Batman before him.

I am bumping this thread and re posing the question, especially in light of the fact that CBMs have become the new western.

Since this thread was made The Dark Knight trilogy is an obvious one, especially TDK.

Bane and CIA are the big guys of the comic film things.

Although I don't personally like it, 300 seems to have stuck.

It's also worth considering which movies are remembered for all the wrong reasons; i.e. Judge Dredd, B&R, and SM3.

TDK, Avengers, and maybe GOTG.

The original Spider-Man

Look how many times that upside down kiss has been parodied.

Next would be 300 mostly because "This is Sparta" Next would be TDK with the "Why So Serious?" And pretty much everything Joker. Next would maybe Guardians with "I am groot"

I don't think I've ever seen the 'This is Sparta' thing in anything.

Revisiting this thread again:

At this point, Spider-Man, The Dark Knight, and The Avengers are definitely in the same iconic tier as Superman: The Movie and Batman.

Of the more recent CBM's, I think Deadpool and Guardians of the Galaxy have a good chance at having a strong pop culture resonance.

Iron Man, more than TDK (imo) really rocketed not just CBMs, but cinema as a whole into a whole new world. It's not my absolute favorite MCU movie, but I'd say it has a HUGE cultural impact.

Iron Man rocked cinema as a business in that it (as well as the whole MCU) changed how big studio movies are made in this current decade and possibly much longer. But in terms of the kind of movie people who love film rewatch for decades to come? Less likely.

The only ones I can say with a sense of definite expectation is The Dark Knight Trilogy (mostly because of The Dark Knight), Superman '78, Batman (1989), and The Avengers.

I could see the first few Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies having a role for historical importance due to being the first to come right after 9/11 that captured the zeitgeist. But they might be similar to the first Iron Man in the sense that they have importance more from a historical perspective than one that people love watching for generations. Of course, will not know for many, many years. So time will tell.
