Constantine and Superman Returns get a +1, but X2 doesn't?

It's funny you brought that up, I was really thinking about that movie when I was made the list. I'll add a plus one.

Comparison Marvel films happen. DC films don't

But I'll do this actual thing later

Well I think Marvel had a head start seeing as how many of their characters were written with actual personalities, so their stories were emotional from the start. DC comics, for the longest time, everyone was happy and friendly with each other and the personalities didn't come until later, mainly the 70's and 80's, but by then, no one really knew about Green Lantern or the Flash. That and Marvel had many more iconic characters, whereas DC has Batman and Superman. The Justice League cartoon helped the rest out to the masses

Good man. :woot:

Granted, I like pretty much all the DC efforts (the iffy exception being Constantine), I'd say the slate of Marvel films is better, largely off volume.

The first two X-flicks, first two Spidey flicks, TIH and Iron Man all get a big thumbs up. Toss in enjoyable offerings like Punisher (Jane version), Daredevil (DC) and the first Hulk and it swings the balance.

I believe most of the flack the Marvel films get in totality is because there's a lot of crap that falls under that umbrella too (X3, S-M3, :unishr:: War Zone, both :ff:films, Elektra, :ghost: and :wolverine). That lessens the impressiveness overall, but I'd still give the nod to Marvel.

Hopefully, WB will see fit to soon remove its thumb from its rectum and grace us with some proper :super:, :hal:, :ww: and Flash action in the wake of the rising:thor:/:cap:/Avengers prospects. We'll be able to have a fuller and more even discussion then.

Where are all the previous Batman and Superman movies, the Steel movie, the Halle Berry Catwoman movie, etc?

Also this thread is doomed to end up in a massive ****storm.

Btw, i liked Daredevil and i was bored to death by V for Vendetta. I really dont see what was the problem with DD besides that fight scene in the playing ground. I also kinda liked Fantastic 4 1. I mean if you understand that this movie was targeted at a younger audience, you'd see that the movie wasnt so bad. Besides the disappointing Dr Doom, i had no problem with it. F4 2 was ridiculous though.

ya this is a nice idea for a thread. Sure i agree both company have had their fair share of hits and misses. sure marvel has made a bunch of mistakes like gh/electra/hulk(2003) for examples. But they still have some really great movies too. Plus i said it before i like that marvel by themselfs and the licensed out characters to other studios at least try to put a movie out and hope for the best. Compared to wb not having any real faith in characters who are not batman. But hopefully gl will change that for them. So we can finally get a new and better superman, flash, and ww out there in the near future.

I'm starting this thread because there seems to be a large debate over which company has released better films. I will ONLY be included new comics book films by DC and Marvel in this list. They will be in order by release date and the movies with a plus 1 are the ones I think are great.

DC

Constantine +1
Batman Begins +1
V For Vendetta +1
Superman Returns +1
The Dark Knight +1
Watchmen +1

MARVEL

X-Men
Spiderman +1
Dardevil
X-Men 2 +1
Hulk
The Punisher + 1
Spiderman 2 +1
Elektra
Fantastic Four
X-Men 3
Ghost Rider
Spiderman 3
Fantastic Four 2
Iron Man +1
The Incredible Hulk +1
Punisher 2
Wolverine

Wolverine did #1 too

Thank you.

You see that is the reason I made this thread. I can't give it to Marvel just because they have a larger slate, that's kinda the problem.

On the other hand, I love your use of Smilies!

Wolverine did #1 too

Huh?

Huh?

nevermind i thought the 1's were for the movies that were the #1 movie in america at some point

I didn't really think they should be included.

I wasn't really counting the older franchise films.

Why not, it does kinda seem like cherry picking if you are ignoring the ton of DC movies before 2000.

Plus you forgot the Catwoman movie.

It's not cherry picking when I also choose to ignore the older Marvel films as well. :cwink:

Catwoman was made WITHOUT the involvement of DC Comics. You may notice that the DC logo is not in the opening. The character in that film was NOT a DC Comics character. Just because the WB choose to use the name "Catwoman" doesn't mean they made a film about the comic book character known as Catwoman. The WB could make another film called "Batman" and cast Jaime Foxx as the lead, but that does not mean it would be about Bruce Wayne.

My 3 favorites on dc's list are The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, and The Watchmen. my three favorites on marvel's list are Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Spider-man 2.

That list is misguiding, first of all DC doesn't make films, second Marvel Studios have only made two of those movies. I don't get why it's so hard for people to understand this. So essentially, Marvel wins by default.

Agreed.

No, it's really not. DC has played a part in EACH of the films listed and so has Marvel. Using your logic Warner Bros. could win by default as well.

There was much debate over which company has put out more quality films, so... the point of the thread was compare and contrast comic book films that involve DC and Marvel characters.

Up until Iron Man Marvel had sweet f-all to do with any of the others. Original Post should have read this then:

I'm starting this thread because there seems to be a large debate over which are the better comic book films. I will ONLY be included new comics book films featuring DC and Marvel characters in this list. They will be in order by release date and the movies with a plus 1 are the ones I think are great.
You can't compare companies when the list provided isn't a reflection of what each company has done.

yea we should get some clear lines on what we want to discuss here. Is it about all official marvel made movies starting starting with Blade 1- the current marvel studios made stuff, and for DC is it from Superman the movie-watchmen or what?

I can't understand why something so simple requires vulcan logic to be understood.
