So I just finished turning on my computer, (XP, Dell laptop) & as it's loading up, I got the following message:

DSCN4074.jpg

It says "Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off."

I have no idea how in the hell this could've happened. My computer has been working fine & I haven't gone on any sort of shady websites or downloaded anything weird so is there a way I can fix all this & get all my old stuff back?

Howdy,

You can try a few different things, but I think the easiest as of this point is to check your disk.

Go to start, and type in CMD, when that loads type at the prompt chkdsk /f /x If asks for it needs do it at next start click "Y" then go ahead and restart. Basically, your forcing the disk check for errors, and unmount the disk on load if needed.

Next step is go to control panel, and create a new user profile see if you can login from that. If you can, create that file, and then copy overall your data from your directory to your new one, and delete the old one. If you have any further question, feel free to ask.

Did ya end up trying to make a new profile yet as well?

I just noticed that before the first picture I posted, I get this message, followed by the one in my first post:

Should I still try creating a new username & all that?

Howdy,

Yeah, I would and see how that works out. If that doesn't, it could be a possible dying HD. But let's not go there, but just telling you it could be.

I created a new admin account for myself, so far so good. Just need to put in all my files and pictures and all that. Should I delete the old admin account I had? The one that was giving me problems?

After you transfer all of your files from your old profile, you can delete it. We get this occasionally at work on users machines.
