Let me get this out now. I love the graphic novel and am reading it a second time now. And I am pumped as all hell to see the movie. But, there's a problem. I get a little queasy when it comes to violence. I handled everything in the novel just fine, but I'm a little concerned about the movie. For example, I heard that Zack Snyder changed
Big Figure's goon slitting the other goon that Rorschach tied up's throat
to
Rorschach cutting off the goon's arms
Now, that sounds a little gratuitous and maybe too much for me. I'm concerned that Snyder is gonna turn up the violence when it is just fine at the level it's at. I'm not saying he should make it all powder-puffs and flowers, but I don't need to see
a guy getting his arms chopped off.

I heard it was the other of Big Figure's goons, not Rorschach, that does the cutting off of the arms.

Either way, both sound very violent. I find myself able to handle a great deal of that kind of stuff, but throat-slittings have always made me a bit uneasy.

I just hope I can handle it. I don't want to have to cover my eyes every five seconds.

I don't wanna be a guy...But I'll try and toughen up a bit when it comes to violence.

Wow :D that was funny.

running time seems to be my only concern and the ending its no clear yet what it is

Well Watchmen was such a huge book with very little violence and the trailer makes it look like one of those Michael Bay movies, I'm sure Zack added more violence.

Most of that violence though is from the book (Vietnam, Veidt's assassination attempt, Blake's death). I'm pretty sure that they just put alot of action clips in to grab the eyes of the audience. Zack could have very well added more action, but i think it will remain in the confines of the existing story.

This makes much more sense. Both times I have read the GN I have thought "how does killing him make it easier to get to the bars?" I would think it would make it more difficult being that they now have a slack, heavy body in their way rather than I guy who might be able to shuffle over a bit....

But if they kill him, then cut off his arms, it:
A: allows them to get to the bars, and
B: delays them as Rorshach intended, while also giving him the pleasure of watching these goons slice each other up. We all know he has no sympathy for criminals.

I agree that it makes sense logically, but it just sounds gratuitous to me. I'm just hoping it'll be tastefully done and not reminiscent of Saw or Hostel.

Exactly.

only concern is that it won't capture the spirit of the comic. that it will be a lifeless adaptation such as V for vendetta. i dont mind snyder amping the violence for the scenes that have them so long as they serve as little orgasmic moments rather than overshadowing the story, etc.
