Congrats Dan! Avengers: The Initiative becomes ongoing.

Um, really? LOL! I always saw them as a joke, and would never call them Avengers Jr.

If I'm not mistaken Quesada touched up on how the NW were pitched as young Avengers in the 90's in a Joe Fridays, he also explained why Young Avengers worked and NW no longer worked. In essence, they didn't work anymore because they were 90's stars and there was already a Young Avengers title that made their comeback kind of pointless. So, despite your perception of them, they were often referred as the "Avengers Jr." in the Marvel offices when they started out (or at least that's what it seemed from the interviews I read).

In all honesty, I haven't seen that much of a surge of people backing the NW in this forum even after Stamford. It has pretty much been the same people that have posted about them and ranted when the preview pages of Reality Bites came out. There are more people NOW that consider them a joke thanks to their tarnished image than before when they had a neutral stance. Maybe it's different in Newsarama or another board you tend to go to; but here it was mostly "Nu Werriors r teh n00bs LOLZ!!!!!1!!!10ne".

What the Marvel offices thought, and was presented, was clearly different. Other than a select few new Warriors, none of them were taken that seriously, ever in the Marvel Universe.

Please, all the arguments and ranting about how Night Trasher shouldve been leader and Namorita wouldve done this and blah blah blah, it was nauseating. So no, I dont see where you're getting this whole, everyone on this board agreed with their protrayal in the comic, because its clearly not the case. I mean, we had entire threads devoted to them.

I hoped the Kevin Grevouix NW ongoing would be worth while, but after the previews I saw, nope it's gonna be crap Ese'!

In all honesty I think the former New Warriors have a better shot at prominance under Dan Slott's care in Avengers:Initiative, Yeah Night-Thrasher and Namorita got nuked, but now Vance Astro, Rage and freakin' Slapstick are featured in AI and we got Darkhawk and Turbo in the Loners mini and Nova is the freakin' Space God Messiah Dirty Harry since Annihilation!

Not to mention eventually their will be a new Night-Thrasher(Too cool a name and his costume was pretty badass.)

As much as I dislike Joey Q, I suspect most if not all of the NWs will come out of this alright.(Accept Speedball ain't no coming back from that bullsh-t Paul Jenkins cooked up.)

Thats now, I'm talking about back in the day.

Back in the day, I still liked them generally speaking. I saw the potential in them not so much as being a fervent buyer of the series in the 90s.

Potential is all they had. Of course, IMO.

Hey, it surprised me too when I found out that's what they were meant to be. Their purpose was supposed to take on the types of crimes that their elders weren't taking on, so I was taken aback when I found out that they were meant to be less "rebel" and more "status quo" like the Avengers. But that's what they were pitched as so it's not out of line when someone says they were meant to be Avengers Jr.

Yup, the complaints and threads were from the same core group of people. Some people outside that group complained at the start but changed their tune as the mini and Frontline progressed. Another group of detractors was not because of the NW but because they didn't like the idea that they were blaming the hero and doing very little against the villain.

I don't know where YOU got the "everyone on this board agreed with their protrayal in the comic" because I didn't say it.

Looks like a few are actually gonna meet and/or surpass that 'potential'.

I'm looking on the bright side, when was the last time you seen Slapstick!? Slapstick in a ongoing? I figure hey Nova is looking pretty good after Annihilation and Dan Slott has his mits on most of the NWs so it can't be all bad.

Why would I want to see Slapstick? :csad:

I'm not saying "Oooh! Wow! Slapstick everyone rejoice." I'm just saying believe in Slott, if a writer can make the Awesome Android into a personable and meaningful character with a chalkboard around his neck, I think he can bring some substance to Slapstick and using actual continuity to do it.
