I think this is a very well made movie, made almost entirely by Downey Jr. in the lead, but the rest, ranging from supporting actors to action sequences is entertaining aswell.

But, I have one problem with the movie.
I think it's hughely sexist. Really, to the point of it bothering me.

The fact that all women turn into total ****s at the look of Tony Stark is simply scandalous and barbaric. When looking at the deleted scenes on the DVD one can see the epitome of this in the Dubai party scene. A man gives two women as a present to Stark for his birthday. Seriously? In this day and age? Then, when passing a woman in the hallyway Stark sees a random woman and asks; Would you like to come with us? And ofcourse, she does. Without hesitating.

I can see why they cut out this truly stunning bit of sexism, but a lot of it's spirit was left in the movie. I think I don't need to specifically mention all the scenes in which Stark picks up women.

I'm not a holy man, I like to see a (half)naked woman as much as the next man, and I'm not preaching but this sexism really jumped out to me.

Anyone else noticed this? Anybody know any women who were as appalled as I am? I can easily imagine.

He's Tony Stark. One of the richest, most famous, most powerful, most charming man in the world. If woman are too stuck up to realize that they could be sleeping with a God among men, then the are truly ditzes.

Anyways, they probably thought they could get the chance to be rich for the rest of there lives, if Stark kept his interest in them.

Agreed. I don't think Favreau was trying to offer up any sort of social commentary about women in general, but rather to illustrate how charismatic and powerfully persuasive Tony Stark is with the opposite sex. Right in line with the character. So not appalling to me.

so..does this mean that
hugh hefner
is sexist also?

i think not.

It was always my understanding that sexism was part of Stark's character flaws.

On this I agree. Falcone does raise an interesting part though. I think Iron Man is borderline sexist, but only in certain instances. Tony Stark is a well known billionaire. It's not surprising or sexist to expect plenty of women to throw themselves at him.

I'm glad that one scene was deleted though. Giving women as gifts is a little overkill IMO. As for the hallway scene, sadly that's just how people are. If a famous celeb asked a woman to come join them in partying, 99% of the time they'd say "hell yeah!" But that's not a slight at women, as men would do the exact same. If a billionaire asked me if I want to join them for a party I'd join too. I hate partying and drinking, but I know the value of a free meal.:woot:

The one bothersome part to me was the reporter. She goes from being a character that could have some merit, then she all of a sudden looks like a ****. I think she should've stuck to her guns, and been a person that's looking for the truth. I she would have turned Stark down, then she wouldn't look like a jealous **** throughout the movie.

It all stems from the fact that Iron Man is an unashamed 'Boys movie'.
Gadgets, secret agents, beautiful women, a central protagonist who has a witty remark for every occasion... It's pure wish fulfilment.
To call Iron Man sexist because of this, is to take it all a little bit too seriously. It's tongue is too firmly lodged in it's cheek...

That is Tony Starks character! Are we going to change James Bond as well?

You say sexist like it's a bad thing.:cwink::woot:

This is really the silliest rant ever. It's like being outraged that women wear skirts above their knees.

women will easily give up there body for a famous or rich person.

its pretty sad and pathetic of them but over here in the UK we see silly little tarts selling a story about sleeping with a famous person.

granted most men should know from looking at these girls what will happen.

LOL how is it sexist? Pepper is one of the reasons he grew a heart.

Not only that, but do an experiment. Find an ugly a** rich guy, and try, just try to get girls even half as beautiful has his. Can't do it huh? Know why? Because women find power and money more sexy than looks. It's a fact, there was a study done where women all over the world were interviewed as to which they found more attractive power or looks and it was like 77% power 33% looks.

i dont understand you the esency of tony is this, conquist womens then he go whit the girls at your home the sexism in the movie dont are bad but also the sexism is exaggerated sorry for this english but i am mexican jeje

Here, cause it doesn't generally apply to women

Call me weird but it was one of the best aspects of Stark.
