Corona and other diseases

Senator Burr, chairman of the Senate intelligence committee three WEEKS ago.

"There's one thing that I can tell you about this: It is much more aggressive in its transmission than anything that we have seen in recent history," he said, according to a secret recording of the remarks obtained by NPR. "It is probably more akin to the 1918 pandemic."

And Burr invoked the possibility that the military may be mobilized to combat the Coronavirus. Only now, three weeks later, is the public learning of that prospect.

"We're going to send a military hospital there, it's going to be in tents and going to be set up on the ground somewhere," Burr said at the luncheon. "It's going to be a decision the president and DoD make. And we're going to have medical professionals supplemented by local staff to treat the people that need treatment."

Burr has a unique perspective on the government's response to a pandemic, and not just because of his role as Intelligence Committee chairman. He helped to write the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA), which forms the framework for the federal response.

But in his public comments about the threat of COVID-19, Burr never offered the kind of precise warning that he delivered to the small group of his constituents.

On Feb. 7, Burr coauthored an op-ed that laid out the tools that the U.S. government had at its disposal to fight Coronavirus.

"Luckily, we have a framework in place that has put us in a better position than any other country to respond to a public health threat, like the coronavirus," Burr said in a statement on March 5.

He pressed a CDC official in early March as to why the nation's pandemic surveillance capabilities had fallen short despite the millions in funding he had helped secure for that purpose through PAHPA.

But despite his longtime interest in bio-hazard threats, his expertise on the subject, and his role as chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Burr did not warn the public of the government actions he thought might become necessary, like he did at the luncheon on Feb. 27.

If true...

I have no doubt many avenues are being explored up to and including already existing medications and treatments.

But testing alone for human safety, side effects, possibly weighing long term damage over a swift initial recovery... Guys it is going to take many months before we see wide spread adoption of some kind of treatment option.

Reposting...

Because I think we all need to realize that people who knew better hid the truth and in the time they had privileged information they did nothing except warn the wealthy of the real problems facing us.

Listen to the words Sen. Burr was saying only weeks back.

So if the CDC is banning gatherings of more then 10 people at one time, does that include Mormon families? What about the family of new Indianapolis Colts QB Phillip Rivers since he has 9 children?

Dunno. I doubt that one could enforce a rule breaking up the physical living space of families with 10 people living together. But the issue is halting infections as much as possible. A family that is not in direct exposure to the virus whether 3 or 10 will drastically reduce the chance if there is limited contact with people outside that group.

Sarah Silverman is still cringe and ruined her part

No. One of the treatments is an anti malarial drug that has been used for years. Another is for hiv. We already know what they do and the side effects so can use them now and are doing so.

Nothing that comes out of his mouth is the truth, and the fact that he constantly peppers his speech with superlatives adds to that lack of credibility.
You know things are bad, when even knowing that, part of you wants what Trump is saying about encouraging treatments to be true.

I'm aware.

I was obviously referring to the creation of new treatments which will take time and testing for development.

Anti-malarials are obviously quite old and HIV treatments have existed for decades.

So china is pretty much in the clear but most other countries are still in danger!?

I think someone posted he lied in his thread in the Politics section.

Bulls*it should be Trump's middle name but is there evidence that he lied about this? Someone posting on the hype that he lied doesn't have much credibility without backing it up

Him with some bs is always most likely but is there proof that he has lied about this?
Right after he said that there was an approved drug....one of the doctors said "I want to clarify....this drug is one we are testing, it hasn't been approved for use yet."
