Corona and other diseases

Him with some bs is always most likely but is there proof that he has lied about this?

It is true anti-malarials have shown promise in other countries but the issue is Trump jumped the gun in his public statements and when asked about this the CDC said they weren't aware of the across the board green light and recommendation Trump was talking about.

Not a lie per se but a further illustration of how mangled messaging and policy is in the WH. Knowing journalists will investigate to follow up rather than look foolish and inept just get all the ducks in a row before making a public announcement?

I think he's talking about Chloroquine. There's also tests with it right now in France. There is, apparently, some encouraging results but contested because of the dangerosity of the product.

Chloroquine and Remdesivir have shown promising early results, but they're not approved yet.

Maze, are you a compatriote ? =)
I live in the east of France, a region particularly touched by the pandemy. I have friends working at hospitals, the situation is heartbreaking and known by all but there's still people who don't care about the containment... The worst part is that when they'll be touched and survived, the'll be the first ones to want to teach moral to others about it.
Hi compatriote :) Yes i am, i'm from Paris/ Haut de Seine....i share your anger and your sadness...i'm sorry for your friends, they are sure courageous people. Hoping that when all will be over, they will obtain the means that they should have at "normal times". This horrible situation makes light on a lot of topics that must be adressed, for all to have a better future. Lot of thought and support from Clamart compatriote, take care of yourself.

They were just talking about this on MSNBC...they said that Trump said Chloroquine was going to be used....but the doctor on this part said that tests with it in China says it doesn't work.

Doctors tried Remdesivir on a critically ill patient in the US whom they expected to pass away (hence why they got fast-track clearance to try an experimental drug on her), and she is now "doing well".

However, they say they don't have enough examples to form a definitive conclusion yet. The other coronavirus patients at their facility had mild enough cases that they were able to go home and recover on their own, so they didn't get clearance to try Remdesivir on them.

Did an experimental drug help a U.S. coronavirus patient?

If I’m hearing correctly, there are, today, no new reported cases of Covid-19 in China. If that’s right, it shows that this virus is likely to be quite short lived.

Think about it a moment. Has the news ever reported that the hospitals are turning away flu patients and running out of coffins to bury them in? No.....because those 30,000 to 500,000 deaths are spread out over the year. The Covid-19 is filling up the hospitals inmass....it is killing the amount of people who would normally die from the regular flu in a half the year in a few weeks. That is the difference.

Sorry, but that is just not correct.
Total deaths recorded worldwide from Covid-19 is less than 10,000 and that is for four months since first diagnosis of this virus. So mortality levels are way less than the usual Flu strains over the same period.

Average monthly deaths worldwide from Influenza is 41,666
I’m not trying to lessen the serious of the situation, just saying that clearer heads are needed with making decisions to slow the spread of Covid-19.

I am fully aware, that older people and anyone with underlying respiratory conditions need to be really careful over contracting this.
My point is that the panic that governments and the media are causing with the measures being taken and the sensationalism of the reporting are what are causing people to panic buy and causing shortages of essential food and hygiene items.
And this will lead to deaths of those most vulnerable who cannot get to the stores as easily as the idiots who are buying 100’s of rolls of toilet paper every day!

Ironically, I read that their new cases were apparently folks who traveled from US and Europe.

DDK tested positive:

I read that they're expecting a second wave because of people returning home.

I think looking at the way once testing is is available we get a better picture of how virulent this is and has the potential to be.

Look at Italy. Their initial quarantine was a joke. Look at the death toll there and calculate where we would be without any measures taken.

A U.S. senator just weeks back in private (on tape) said that this was going to be a 1918 level event.

Spanish Flu is estimated to have killed more than WWI.

I don't want to spread needless panic either but the response has been a world wide one. Businesses and health orgs across the board seem to be in agreement about the severity and future impact.

This all just sucks, but it can only get worse if we can't halt the rate of infection sooner than later.

That's my take.

You say there is no reason to be taking the actions that countries are doing because the death rate is lower than regular flu season. Well....I am 62 years old....and in all those years of living through all those flu seasons....not once did I hear news reports of first world countries with death tolls like this. Never before were there reports of doctors having to decide that the old simply wouldn't be treated because there were not enough resources. Things are obviously many times worse this month than this month in any other year since 1918.

Total deaths recorded worldwide from Covid-19 is less than 10,000 and that is for three months since first diagnosis of this virus. So mortality levels are way less than the usual Flu strains over the same period.

Forget the mortality levels. Even if you don't die from the virus, you still need medical care so you don't get worse. And for this to work, hospitals must not be overwhelmed.
That's where the risk is. And since the epidemy is exponantial, and that medical worker are not tireless robots and risks to be sick too, the situation is quickly out of hand.
Plus, we haven't the total numbers of infected worldwide. The death rate is getting worse by day with a victimology that seems to be still evolving. And finally, we have no treatment. We simply don't have enough perspective on this virus and I think it's truly an error to want to compare it with the usual Flu.

I don't know how media are treating the pandemy where you are, the thing is scary by itself but for sure, people should remain calm, stay home and don't empty the stores.
This is another problem here. Stores are adequately stocked but people buy too much, causing daily shortages and so, many already tired caregivers find nothing on the shelves at the end of the day.
