Now we know the costume will be CG what do you think it will look like? I think it will be odd. Will Ryan's face be CG as well?

What do you guys think?

Sounds cool. The transformation, green aura and the suit morphing into other versions (like armored) should look cool.

It's just his suit besides he's been doing Mocap. So the movements are his just the suit will be CG.

Is anyone worried that the suit is cgi with the SFX Team behind GL?

I like it. Since the ring creates the suit it would look weird if it were made of cloth. I'm glad they're going this route because 1.) it will help protect the identity better and 2.) it will look incredibly badass.

Are you guys sure they are not just talking about the change from Hal to GL?

well as folks said in the news thread this could lead to some interesting design choices they can go with. I just hope sony imageworks is on ball this time and got some solid folks behind this with the cgi stuff. Also there could still be partial practical suits ryan could wear for certain scenes like maybe if its an exterior location scene he could wear that. And in studio when on green/blue screen in that tracking suit as been mentioned. In the end i hope we get a kick butt looking costume. Also i wonder how do you guys think they will go about the mask.

I doubt Reynolds face will be CG, but I'm not that worried to be honest for some reason.. which is shocking because I'd have a **** fit if Superman's suit was going to be CG in the reboot.

I don't know why I'm not worried, perhaps it is something to do with the type of power Green Lantern has & how effects heavy usage of said powers could be..

I'm optimistic, but in a good way

Films like Star Wars: Episode I, Spider-Man, and Iron Man have proven that you can mat a persons face onto a CGI body. I wouldn't worry about weather or not Reynolds face will be CG or not (I am quite sure that his contract will dictate how much of his face should be shown). Now that we have it established that they will use CGI for the costume (something I had speculated before), will we they choose to use the domino mask with the white eyes (for the first time ever) or not?

personally, I think the mask will be practical.

i didn't know sony imageworks was doing the fx....i'm slightly less sure about this cg suit concept, but i will hold off judgement until we get a trailer at least.

yea i am hoping and i think they would have pratical mask too maybe be made out of same stuff they are doing with the tracking body suit so it all matchs. As for the white eyes/glowing eyes yea this is a chance to really go for that.

I was wary at first but I'm starting to really dig this idea. This makes me more confident that they'll do the Van Sciver 3D symbol pop, which I love. It'll look amazing on screen.

I'm sure it's just one domino mask. At this point, I think they will give him 'white eyes'. And I'm sure he'll have just have one costume.

Considering the green aura that is seen in the comics and how the symbol is often raised with a construct symbol, I think this is what they're going for. I don't understand those getting all bent out of shape because this makes sense in a lot of ways. In fact I was expecting the suit to be heavily enhanced with CG to get those effects seen in the comics. I look forward to the design and think those expecting some horrible looking CGI suit are overreacting.

CGI suit concept? Completely unnecessary and ******ed idea, what a waste of money used for CGI. Especially with the lame as hell SFX company behind the film I'm sure they will **** it up somehow.

THE SFX here are actually my main concern, I'm convinced that the quality of the film will be great especially with an apparently terrific script, great cast and solid direction from Martin Campbell. This film looks like it will rock, however

What the bloody hell are they thinking? Why not save time and effort for this LED CGI suit bull - **** and put that effort and money towards creating bigger and more epic space battles. The budget for this film is what, $150 million? That's really not that much for a film like Green Lantern and I understand that if used wisely they can make it look like a 200 mill film, but spending it on crap like this CGI suit instead of just designing an actual damn suit is wasteful spending. I definitely expect for the action to be curtailed or have more close up shots or just less of it in general, much like the first Iron Man which was pretty lame and light on action yet somehow had a 180 million budget. This is Green Lantern afterall and the scope of the action and adventure should not be compromised... I really hope they keep this in mind but so far, not very good news I feel with this suit garbage.

Well, if you think about it and look at the comics, the ring is an alien technology with an artificial intelligence (AI - in essence a computer). It would make sense that any thing it created would be in essence computer generated. What better way to illustrate that to the audience than by making the ring constructs (even the costumes) CGI? That makes perfect sense if you look at it that way.

Furthermore, films like Spider-man and Iron Man used CGI for their action scenes. The CGI technology is so seemless now that you wouldn't notice that it was being used anyway so why are you in such a tizzy -- especially when you haven't even seen the costume or footage of the film yet to make an honest judgement?

Ditto.

Prob cheaper than making a ton of $20,000 suits anyway. We live in the CG age imagine how much they saved on Avatar...go to actual alien word in a billion dollar rocket OR...just make one up.

Worked out for them. :woot:

I think it would work out in a way. All it takes is the right SFX crew to do it.

From Slash Films: "The suit that Ryan wears on set is a grey tracking motion/performance capture suit with led lights."

Looks like they are going with Dr. Manhattan (Watchmen) route.
