Could a Superman movie work where

For a big chunk of the film (like at least a third) he was bad from being on Red Kryptonite? And so for that part of the film it was about the supporting cast trying to stop him?

Would that feel nicely different or a little too like a television episode?

Substitute extreme emotional trauma for red Kryptonite and you could almost be talking about Injustice. It would need a really interesting plot, rather than just 'Superman does bad things'. Otherwise it'd just feel like an expanded version of that section from Superman III but without the context.

The Problem would be the fallout after his recover from red Kryptonite. He just end up back as Zack SNyder's Superman as opposed to the person people want him to be aka Donald Trump
